you talkin about buying or selling? i don't wanna sell to him - he makes way too much of a profit off of each box he gets - and i dont wanna buy from him cause he doesnt sell mobos solo.

Sorry to hear bout your misfortune.
I wouldn't count it as dead just yet. Try checking all the traces in that 5v area with a multimeter for continuity.
Also check and make sure you didn't blow a fuse. look at www.xbox-scene.com for details.

for the 1.6 and 1.6b version xboxs
sage2050 though its umlikely as you would have already done it, if your xbox is under a year old take it back and get a replacement
my cousin took back his 1.6 then got a new which was a 1.1 with samsung dvd drive
like i pointed out in the pic, there is a burn mark on those 2 or 3 traces where the pin fell, so i will check continuity. i don't think i blew a fuse, because the only pops/sparks/smoke came from the mobo, not the powersupply. as for taking it back, i doubt they would take it 1)because it was refurb 2) because the stickers are broken. besides, i'd rather keep it. now the hard part is unlocking my 160gb hdd for later use. hopefully i wont have to format it.
any more input?
btw, i just pulled out my dad's multimeter, and there's continuity through the "burned" traces, and the d0, hdd, and lan wires. where else would i need to check to know for sure if the board is fried?

if your x3 is still ok you should be able to pop it in another xbox and use the backup eeprom to boot your locked hdd again or did i miss something from your posts???
the backup EEPROM is saved to the hdd, not the chip (unless i'm mistaken), so i will have to use Live Info to find the lock code. this shouldnt be a problem.
who? if you're talking about the backup EEPROM thing, i made the info file (x3data.txt) which is on the hdd. thats what i meant, if you thought i thought that the EEPROM was stored on the hdd.
My TV and XBOX both died on Christmas Eve. Talk about a nice Christmas present. First the TV at 4:00 pm and then the xbox at 10:00 pm.

i had a similar problem about half of a year ago. I had a x2.3b lite plus and it was installed and doing okay. But sometimes, if the xbox got moved, it would frag. i made a wire harness for it and soldered it into my 1.1 xbox. after that i got a black screen and i tried everything i could. but, i screwed myself and basically scratched up the mobo and messed up traces just like you. i was going to sell my xbox to llama.com when my brain hatched an idea. i would send my xbox to my cousin in georgia and when it got there he would file an insurance claim and then i would get money. in the end, i sent my xbox and all went fine. now if have 357.48 to spend. im not gonna install it in my new xbox until the x3 control panel and the new bios comes out.
maybe you could try that plan, if your parents would let you. my mom was hesitant but eventually agreed. btw, the check took a while to come but it was worth it.

not quite the same thing... my mobo is fried. 100% dead, as far as i can tell. anyway, he filed the claim through UPS? sounds crafty 8)
