Drunken, one last thing, you said that you UNlocked the HD, but you are unsure if you re-locked it?

IF this is still a matter of getting data off the HD of that Xbox I would really advise dropping it into your new Xbox.
If you do that, and try to boot the M$ dash you will know immediately by getting the error. (# 05 I believe)

If you DO get the error then it sould be that the hd IS UNlocked, and therefore you can use it in the new Xbox and get your original files off of it.

Of course, between you and the not-so-rookie Rookio, you'll figure it out ;-)

San Francisco California.
I even have friends who grew up in Prescott Arizona not far from him.

I know what you're thinking though, and the problem is that I haven't even SEEN a conductive pen, let alone know EXACTLY how one works, or remove it's presence. =-(

Oh, and when it comes to thinking about removing/resoldering an EEPROM daddy raised no fool, I know my soldering limitations. :D

How did I get in?

Well, a LONG time ago my best friend the leader among us in technology, and he found out that it was possible to solder a chip into a PS1 and get his game on.
From that day I decided that things weren't restricted to what a group or company told us. (My father had been telling me for years.)

After that years went by, I moved to San Francisco, and the time came around that I could have funds to buy a system. At that time I discovered the show then called "The Screen Savers" on TechTV. (Now called G4 TechTV)
So of course, I did all the reading they reccommended, and a little more.

I happenned to catch an earful of a dark tip in which Kevin referenced his earlier expose on how to mod an Xbox. Since I already mess with comps, it was like a lateral move. (Not to mention it's fringe benefits.)

I've always loved technology, now it just pays every day. =-D

How about you?

And also i belive the new hard drive is bigger. so id like to somehow get the files from one hdd to the other. and yes ill check shipping prices out and probably send to you rookie. I love you guys man :p

Drunken, as long as your old hdd is unlocked, you got no problems whatsoever. If it's locked, you gotta get your old eeprom to unlock it. (or fix your mobo) :)

Cophasor, a mate at work told me how he found out you could mod xbox's. Thenlo and behold next christmas, my sister gave me one! So, of course i started researching which mod chip i wanted to get, and ended up settling down here at xecuter. Haven't been at it for long, but if it's a passion, you learn quickly right?

Funny end to this story, is that I have just booked in an install for the guy at my work who told me about this in the first place! haha!

LMAO!

Know what's funny? I was all geeked about this last year, and tried convincing a bud who had a box into letting me do it. He was scared, and unsure so he said no. Well all year I had no bread (married) and out of NOWHERE his roommate was on IM and was like hey, he just got his Xbox modded!

Of course I was PISSED, like wtf he didn't ask me to do it?
Well, it was my borthday the next week and I basically demanded everyone pitch in for an X3 and I bought an HD.
I had a problem, came here, read some more, and hooked up with Martin. After that I fixed it myself, and stuck around to help.

The next week my buddy fried his crappy Aladdin Advance XT chip by trying to flash it, so he had me order an X3 and then I fixed it for him. (I did his in 2 hrs. 8-D)

That's ok, the Aladdin was janky anyway, I'd rather him have a REAL chip.
(Aladdin solders TO THE BOARD, wtf kind of a tard designs that?)

Ok guys I dont wanna make anyone mad cuz I keep asking these questions, but heres the specific question. Will i need to reflash the chip, when i swap hard drives back? Will it affect the chip in any way? And if the hdd is unlocked how can I get the files on the new hard drive?

You won't need to reflash the chip. The hard drive just needs unlocked.
You see the problem is like we talked about before, that IF your HD is locked, the only thing that can access it now is the mobo it came with. Once the mobo has an X3 on it it can unlock the HD so it can be placed in ANY Xbox.
Hell, you wouldn't even NEED to unlock it if the mobo were to be working with an X3 on it since you could just FTP the data out BUT.

IF you just want the HD to be able to go into ANY Xbox later, have it unlocked, and then just keep it around after you FTP the data out. (To the new Xbox, OR just to your PC.)

If this ends up working out, please don't hesitate to bump up my rep if you like. (The square smiley under my name)

Bed for me though, happy modding!
