okay to use flashbios 3.0.1 with v1.6b box?

Hello,
I have the x3ce w/ solderless and a 1.6b box (hynix ram). It (mostly) boots to flash bios 3.0.1 fine but I've read that I should use 3.0.3 - is that only if it does not boot with 3.0.1? Also, for some reason I am unable to boot to the backup. When I press eject and power, nothing happens. If I just push eject it boots to 3.0.1. And occasionally it will not boot at all. I do not have the switch installed. I've tried with and w/o a joystick plugged in, verified connections.

Does having hynix ram mean I have 1.6b? (its definately 1.6)
Should I first flash with 3.0.3 or just put X3 3294 1.6+?
Does the occasional nonboot mean install issue or 3.0.1 compatibility?

You have 1.6B

1.6 is samsung ram.



Flash the latest x3 bios and it should fix it. 50% of the time my xbox wouldnt boot but I put the newest bios on it and it boots every time now.

Thanks - good to have confirmaion on version!

I tried flashing 3294 1.6+ via http and had some trouble. It says "unknown bios, halted" - I forget the exact wording. Oddly enough, if I put the bios protect to red (protected) it went through the flashing sequence (erasing and then writting) but at the end it said "programming error". Fortunately I can still boot to 3.0.1. Perhaps I'll solder in the chip. Or do I need to flash 3.0.3? Any suggestions woud be great!

Unprotect your chip make sure your dipswitchs are on on off off and retry flashing the 3.03 bios it should work if you have extracted the files right using winrar have you?

Thanks! Using 3.0.3 was the ticket. I had some issues booting, but I finally installed the switch to allow flashing to bank 5 for the 3.0.3 and then it booted all the time. Then flashing to banks1-4 with the 1.6+ took with no problems. Now I just need to read up on formatting and installing, etc. At least I've made some progress! Thanks again!

Make sure you flash your backup bank with FlashBios 3.03 as the backup bank is orginally flashed with 3.01.

Yeah its supposed to "do that". However it will not "do that" with a version 1.6b.
