I want to replace my buddy's drive because he said it permanently won't read discs. He says its a yellow wire under the face plate so I think that's a Lite-on drive of some sort.

I've flashed a few benq's about 2 years before the banwave but no recent experience. I simply want to replace the drive, I'm not trying to play backups!

Questions.
1. Can I replace it with any drive, like a benq or samsung? Or even at all?
2. As far as flashing, will simply copying old .bin and flashing to new drive be it?
3. Will my chipset work for the flash?

Thanks guys, you rock!

Do you have any flashing tools?
Does the drive still power on?
To read the key of a liteon to flash onto a new drive you will need a CK3 lite/pro and a probe

The easiest way would be to just get a new laser for the liteon as that is most likely the problem.

Failing that you need to get another liteon as spoofing can be detected. Then you should be able to just swap over the PCB which will require a little bit of soldering.

Thanks liz. I figured reading liteon key would be a bit more of a task so I think I'm going to try replacing the laser instead.

Plus I don't want to run into spoofing problems.
