I have open tray error tweaked and cleaned laser which has worked in the past, still the same fitted new laser the same it will not even read originals,Any suggestions?

The new laser could be dodgy.
It could also be the spindle motor or the worm motor that moves the laser up and down the track.
You also get open tray if you build it back up with the laser at the back of the drive. Make sure its right next to the spindle before testing and make sure you have removed the anti static solder point.

Tried another laser the same its a puzzle? i've done a few of these with no problem i've even tried a new dvd drive swapped pcb over no luck, tries to read then open tray, Any thoughts?

U need to see how the drive is behaving by leaving the case off and see whats going on. Push the laser to the back of the drive and see if it returns to the front wen opening and closing the drive. If the laser doesnt move it cud be your worm motor.

May sound stupid pal but get another laser trust me. I tested 3 in my slim with no luck then i ordered another and boom it worked.

Edit: don't forget to remove the solder point on the new laser before fitting it

if a new laser doesn't work first thing to test is how hard it is to turn the spindle. i've had quite a few of those things get jammed up. if it won't spin freely, pop it of and take a qtip with most of the cotton pulled off and some isopropyl alcohol and clean all that black gunk out of the motor and off of the spindle really good then find some grease to go back in it

I've been sorting them out for the grandkids for 5 yrs now its the first time i've hit a brick wall
Anymore suggestions ?
