Well I installed an x3 for my friend about half a month to a month ago and hes now having problems with the box, im not sure whats causing it though, all though i havent actually looked at the box yet. here is the description he gave me:

"Okay, I was playing Mortal Combat Deception and i went to load up kombat and after I chose who I wanted to be it kicked out and then eject button turned orange and it wouldn't let me turn off the box by pressin the power button. I then decided to just unplug it. It then loadedup in this wierd way as i decribed before. I left to go do some othere things and came back to it to see if it just needed to cool off. The moment i went to load a game it started the same orange LED and frozen state. I would really appreciate it if my problem could be solved."

thanks for any help guys.

i talked to him again, and got him to boot an original disc with the chip off, and it works fine, and the x3 config also works, so could it be a hard drive issue? like over heating or something? because he does have a 200GB in it.

X-Clamp Mod Problem

I'm not really sure what the problem is. I rarely ever ask for help in the kinds of situations, I usually figure them out on my own somehow, but I've been playing around with these for 3 days now and I thought it was time to ask for help.

I fixed my 360 with the xclamp mod a while ago and its still working. My friends have asked me to do the same for their 360's, but neither of them are working.

The first one I have replaced the geothermal compound twice. I have taken apart many times and its driving me insane.

I have the screws holding the heat sinks loose a little bit. I have the RF module and the DVD drive plugged in and then I turn the power on with the video cable plugged in. According to the tutorial, it says turn the power on and three lights should appear, after a minute or two, two lights should appear in its stead. Leave it running like that for a minute for the soldier balls to melt and then shut it off. Instead of three lights when powered up, it showed two lights. Turned it on and off several times only to get 2 lights. Fans were not plugged in.

Eventually I put it back together and it went back to its usual 3 lights. The secondary error code is 0022, which is overheating. So, I took it apart again, left the dvd drive unplugged this time and it started with three lights and eventually went to two lights like its supposed to. After reassembling again, the 3 lights remained. I did a combination of unplugging and leaving plugged in and screwing with no satisfying results.

I decided to start on the second one, everything ready to turn on for the three lights, and then it shows two, JUST like the first one, which left me sighing.

So, eliminating the 3 rings code is my problem...

Is there any idea on what I might be doing wrong or anything else? Any help would be very much appreciate from the deep depths from my heart :)

Re: X-Clamp Mod Problem

Take the fans and set them on top of the CPU heatsink (the tall one) so they are blowing down and put your dvd drive back in place. turn on your xbox and let it sit on for 30 minutes. Then power off and allow to cool another 30 minutes. Tighten your screws down after cooling and test for joy. Works for me on stubborn Xboxes. :D

Re: X-Clamp Mod Problem

The first one worked! Thank you very much!

But the first one is doing the two red lights and the fans cut off and it does not heat up.

Any solution to this one? :)

EDIT:
The Secondary Code is 0012 which is overheating...

Re: X-Clamp Mod Problem

Well, I've read a lot of posts on google and people say two red lights after xclamp fix means that it is screwed on wrongly. Taking a closer look, I noticed my screws were too long for the smaller heat sink where it could still wiggle a little because there is not more space to screw into.

Tomorrow, I will replace these screws with smaller ones and pray that is the cause of the problem.

If anyone else has a different diagnosis or a different solution, I would praise any help :)

make sure your fan shroud is on right and that the fans are blowing away from the heatsinks and working.

Re: X-Clamp Mod Problem

I really really really should have just given the 360's back when they were fixed and not done anything else with them.

The second one, I purchased new screws and put them in and it worked. It turned on without even having to do anything. But every time I put a disc in the drive, it would make a loud noise inside the DVD Drive and not read the disc. Not that frustrating, just figured I need a new DVD Drive.

BUT THE FIRST ONE, I nearly threw the 360 out the window. It was already fixed, so I put a movie in it and the E74 error popped on the screen. I looked it up and a site said that it might possibly be a dashboard error. So I connect it to the internet and attempt an update. At the end of the update, the thing says that the connection to xbox live was not working and it went to the E74 error. So I thought I'd try again, BUT THEN the 3 red lights appeared AGAIN! I am just hated by these things. I fixed mine just fine without any of these problems but the 360 is trying to drive me to insanity.

Does anyone have any suggestions on the first one? I know what I need to do on the second one, I am just tired of the first one...

Re: X-Clamp Mod Problem

Team Xecuter sells a 3rlod kit that includes heatsink pads for e74 errors. You may want to look into that.
