I am reading every possible way of putting the files onto a new harddrive. I have just formatd my new harddrive and put avalanuch and ms dashboards onto the c drive, I also copied over my old e drive file.

Now, what do I need to do in order to play on live?
- I have locked my harddrive
- I had an account with my old harddrive - so I think I either need to delete this account and start over or Hacking the firmware of the upgraded hard drive? is that right? how do I do the later?

I have read that I need to not put anything on c or e drive, but most sources tell me to put the dashboards on the c drive. What is the correct place to put them? I have drives: C,D,E,F,G,X,Y,Z. Where can I safely put game files and other files?

I have also read in a thread that I cannot play on Live and not get banned with my own harddrive installed. Is this true? I don't believe that, becasue there are many other posts of people playing on live.

It seems like I overlooked the post that people are working on a solution of hacking harddrives.

So my question is now: If I put in my old harddrive, is there anything that I have to do (ie put the desktop files on any specific drive) to play on xbox live?

You should be fine with your old drive if that is the one that was in there when you signed up to xblive...

If it is, you should be safe in thise scenarion:

1. Factory drive with all factory file system intact (you can have other files on E as well that you may have added yourself without detriment)

2. Boot up with chip disabled

You should be good to go without bannage...

Basically, I would say the rule of thumb is, make sure you're signing on to xblive with the factory bios running, and the HD serial number you had at the time of signup.

CAn I safely install the dashboard files on the c driver?

I also created the account before installing the chip. is that going to get me banned?

You can safely put the other dashboard on the C drive without getting banned. Just do not overwrite or remove any files that were on the stock C drive.

The signing up order does not matter when it comes to the chip. Trying to sign on with the chip enabled will get you banned no matter when you signed up to Live. Luckily the Xecuter bios by default disables your ability to sign onto Live when running games from the mod.

The deal with the order of when you signed up and the hard drives. Is that many people believe that Live reads the hardware serial on your drive when you sign up. If you then signin later on with the new HD, which has a different serial number, Live detects the difference and now knows you opened your box. Result? Banned....

Two rules to live by to not get banned:

1> NEVER sign into Live with the chip enabled.
2> Always sign into Live with hard drive that you signed up for an account with. (or hack the serial on the HD, people are working on this it has not been achieved yet to my knowledge)

Hope this helps...

VIA 6421A SATA Card Compatible with Onboard VIA Controller

Is it worth buying a VIA 6421A SATA card if I have an onboard VIA SATA controller (VT8237)? Using the onboard VIA SATA controller/port causes my PC to lock-up whenever I try to flash my Liteon 74850C drive.

What I've been doing to flash my drive is to use an Adaptec 1205SA SATA card to dump and create the custom firmware.
Then I have to boot into DOS, use L-o-erase, and DOSFLASH (16 bit) to finish the flash writing process.

Will installing a VIA 6421A SATA card eliminate the need to boot into DOS to use L-o-erase and DOSFLASH? Or will it also lockup?

Thanks.
