First time hacking 74850C

So, honestly this is my first time flashing firmware at all, and I jumped in head first into the deep end. I've learned a lot as I go, but after smashing my face into enough metaphorical brick walls, I figured I should ask for help.

First, from perusing the forums, I am still unsure whether or not LT even works for my liteon; can anyone confirm this?

Secondly, I was trying to use iPrep, but i cannot find definitions for it for LT (perhaps my google fu isn't strong enough). Are there any other methods of flashing LT to my dvdd other than preparing the flash drive with iPrep? (my tools at hand are onboard sata ports and a flash drive).

Instead I tried using iXtreme 1.6, but got multiple errors in DOS due to files not found. I'm guessing this means that it's not finding these files off the DVDD opposed to missing files off the ixtreme file on my flash drive, but I'm not sure, and even so, I'm not entirely sure how to proceed with that issue if it is properly diagnosed.

I have gotten the impression that 7 series Liteon drives need some sort of special modification and can't be simply flashed similarly to the textbook tutorial example for benq/liteon.

Honestly, I'm just looking for suggestions, or even better, a quick rundown of how any of you would approach cracking my drive.

Re: First time hacking 74850C

you have to have a liteon key reader of some sort... there are many possibilities... or do the MRA switch mod....

the mra mod you have to know how to solder and cut traces, you have
to install a switch and a 22ohm resistor....

if you've used jungleflasher or iprep and did the liteon erase then your
pretty much screwed because you needed to pull the key before you
attempted the flash. at this point your done.

Re: First time hacking 74850C

Well, I just hooked up enough stuff to see if it still reads normal games, which it does just fine. I suppose the soldering method is more available and cheaper. plus I found a relatively nice guide to doing it here http://xbox-experts.com/tutorial/flash-your-liteon-for-free/

I suppose overall I just got unlucky with my model for a first-time modder. I guess that's what I get for buying a 360 arcade -_-

Also, is the soldering technique a one-way ticket? If I do the hardware changes and I still have issues with the firmware, am I totally f**ked?

No you actually got lucky with your drive. The 7series liteon is one of the easiest.

Re: First time hacking 74850C

Well, I suppose I can take your word for it, but i was more hoping before I began this project to not have to make any physical alterations to my 360. I guess I'll just forge ahead with figuring out how to do this; however, just wanna go back to my question about LT, which is sort of in 3 parts

1. is lt compatable with 7 series?
2. are there correct definitions for iwhatever to prepare a usb stick with lt ixtreme lt?
3. I see a lot of people worried about losing their original firmware when upgrading to lt. Will I brick my 360 if I simply start with lt, or is this an issue with all upgrades?

Re: First time hacking 74850C

Hey M8! I suggest You flashing your drive using this strobe method. It requires not much electronics expirience, soldering is not to complicated, but if I were you, i would use the jungle flasher user quide - jf is the best flashing program i ever saw - its all in the one place. User guide will show you how to do the "software part". The page you have posted shows you how to make this circuit. Except the strobe circuit you have to use compatibile sata card. VT6421 if i still remember good. I suggest You take a look on the jf user guide, if there will be any problems post it here. Good Luck! :p
