Is it true that Philips/BenQ/LiteOn drives have no hacked firmware? And so if I buy an Xbox 360 and I get one of those drives, I will not be able to play backed-up games?
I read this in Textbook's tut (which is excellent)

Cofree is correct. Since we are no able to read and write to the benq with ease, the firmware development will continue and allow for testing to be done easily. Dumping and flashing was the first big hurdle. Hopefully the firmware will follow.

So do you guys think that firmware for this drive is in development? Will it definitely be released?

And was this drive made in cooperation by Phillips, BenQ and LiteOn? Or do they each manufacture it according to blueprints given to them?

Any update on this? I am planning to get an Xbox for a really good deal, but the drive is the BenQ.

If a firmware is in the works and will definitely be released at some point, I would like to buy it. Otherwise, I'll have to think twice.

Let me know if you have any updates. Thanks

Buy the 360 and swap the drive. So many broke and banned 360's nowadays you can get a replacement drive for cheap. You might have to spend on the hardware but you will be saving on the cost later on. Sammy & Hit drives firmware work perfect so use that without doubt when or if it will work for your needs whatever it maybe.

Help. Please!

i had a modded xbox 360 with a flashed toshiba drive in it. unfortunatelly i received the ring of death while playing halo3 online last night. So thinking that i could just switch the modded drive from my old one the the new 360 (halo edition) it would work fine i switched the drive out but when i put in one of my backups it give me weird message saying that i should insert cd or dvd in the xbox, but its already in. what should i do?what can i do in order to play again. The new xbox came with the phillips benq drive, so thats why i havent modded it yet.

first off
man you are jumping in on someone eles tread you should have started your on.

you could try the x-clamp fix or pm bigd23 he is fixing this kind if thing.(RROD)

that being said you can not just swap dvd drives in the 360 it will not work.the keys in the drives are different.put you halo 360 back together.then just wait.the benq is getting very close to getting the firmware it needs to be flashed.
