lol why a tripod? that just acts as a steady hand, i dont think that effects the bluriness

more light / tripod, try both, if you dont have a steady hand and your shutter speed is slow you will get bluriness from any little motion at all

It's funny that I recently took a picture of the exact same thing .... my first wire install. I don't know what's up with your camera, but the picture SHOULD come out like this ...... :)

When you press the button to make the capera take a picture it should auto zoom... sends out a red/orange light first... then beeps... if you get too close it won't auto zoom... you have 4 million pixles to play with... just stand further back and snap the pic... then when your in photoshop insted of makeing the whole pic 500 X 350, make it full size and crop the section you want... for example...

Here's my wife, son and I searching for easter eggs this morning...

It was a 3m pic... so I used photoshop and set it too %100 and cropped out the egg..

see the difference?

Now I took a pic of a piece of paper on my desk. I stook pretty far above it...

But by cropping it instead of shrinking it I can get this close...

Those are from the same pic. Just get far enough away that the camera can focus and then crop what you want out of the pic!

This method is fine - except you don't always have the room to take a picture from this distance.

The Macro Zoom feature on cameras is by far the best way to do this - especially if you're looking for trace damage on a PCB. Zoom in after taking the picture to really show detail. Don't forget to disable the flash :)
