Pin 5 Not Measuring Correctly

Yes all the pins are soldered correctly etc. the 3.3v and 5v led's are on and the front panel is blue when the xbox frags. disabled the xbox loads m$ dash fine. i measured all the pins with the chip disabled with and without the chip plugged and pin 5 measured 3.3v just as it should. once i enabled the chip and tested pin 5 with and without the chip in place it measures .16v. all other pins are fine. it seems as if when the chip is activated it "absorbs" the voltage from pin 5 causing it to frag..i've already posted this thread on xbox-scene and experts have told me to come here...so here i am hoping i find a solution.
p.s. i've emailed system-mods to see if the chip might be damaged in fact and i've also added a dab of solder to the pin to see if it wasn't completely reaching the plug in the chip but nothing...pin 5 still measures .16 when the chip is enabled....any advice??

Try booting the box with the front switch panel totally disconnected from the X3.

See if you get the Flash BIOS up.

You MUST be able to get it to boot into the backup BIOS ??

Unless this is a 1.6 ver Xbox ?

That may explain it then ....

I dont think your soldering is at fault here .... stop messing with it !! :)

HOPEFULLY your X3 has the 3.0.3 flash bios on it - it may be that you have a 1.6b and needs this to boot, as without it, it will more than likely frag. Seeing as almost always at the moment, the backup BIOS is 3.0.0 - this will not work either.

Try going through ALL the 256kb banks - it's normally there somewhere.

So long as you have 2 LED's on the chip lit and a Blue 'X' - you're good to go.

If it's not there, you either need a mate who has a modded box and similar chip, OR someone like Me to re-flash your chip for you.

256k Bank
Bank 1: on on on on
Bank 2: off on on on
Bank 3: on off on on
Bank 4: off off on on
Bank 5: on on off on
Bank 6: off on off on
Bank 7: on off off on
Bank 8: off off off on

Put the switches in these positions and try booting - one by one.

If one of these doesn't work tho, I'm stumped :(

I assume you've tried both these too ?:

1MB Bank
Bank 1234: on on off off (Set to this when flashing first time with FlashBIOS)
Bank 5678: off on off off

i tried all of those banks...nothing...but if it infact might be the bios..why is the pin5 reading .16 when it should say 3.3...it does say 3.3 when the chip is disabled plugged and when its not plugged...i tried each of those banks and booted as it were enabled but nothing..is there something i'm doing wrong?

when i 1st flashed it i put the banks (on on off off off) then i switched them to (off, off, off, off, off) and it was fine...i think i might've messed up the backup...but i remember a while back i pressed both and it loaded the backup

OK the bios you flashed on to the chip should have the 1.6PLUS.bin file ?

If you put the switches back to on,on,off, off it Frags?

I've heard of the 3.3v messing about if the front panel switch has some sort of short but you unplugged it got the same result ?

I guess you could still be getting some short from solder splash etc - this could be TINY and would need checking with a magnifying glass.

Try the Backup again - Hold the power button for a second whilst pressing the eject for a second til the LED goes from red to purple quickly - then release both. This is less hit and miss than just trying to press both at once.

going back to the voltage...when the chip is enabled it starts off at around 3.2v or so and drops to a stable .16v..i read somewhere someone's did the same and it was fine...so i'm guessing there are no hardware troubles..

Dont think I did ??

No, there isnt one as you've seen ....

I've reflashed a few X3's for people now coz they've hashed things up with a 1.6

Thats the only way if it IS messed up. You would need to hot swap it or get it done by someone with the same chip.

I dont know any more I'm afraid. Everything points to it being correct.
Perhaps someone can test their 3.3 to see if it goes low too ?
I wont have chance tonight (It's 10.30 in the UK) but maybe tomorrow if you get no joy.

Keep trying the backup maybe ?

Another thing is - you could try cleaning the LPC totally out, removing it all and trying again. Also replace the pin you cut with the spare one you shoulda taken out when you installed the pin header.

Let me know how you go.

Good luck
