Save yourself a lot of headache and do the pin header install. It is the only way to go. As with the wire install or the pin header you still have the same amount of points to solder. The pin header is more stable than the wire install and you don't have to worry about sticking the x3 on the side of the case to mount it. Plus the pin header is used by more ppl here than the wire install ( that has to tell you something, huh. ) Even if you have a version 1.0 mobo, the desoldering is a snap.

If you are new to soldering do a pin header install even if you have a 1.0. I have a 1.0 and tried the wire install 3 times, and each time it would only work for a few seconds. I did the pin header install and it worked flawless the first time.

Even Mincrosoft uses the pinheader. The XDK's (Xbox Developement Kits for people who don't know) come with pinheaders in their lpc.

Yea pinheader all the way.
The only advantage that pops to mind for the wire install is if for some reason you wanted to remove everything completely, clean the area and start over. But I can't think of why you would do that.

er frying the chip or motherboard though you'd have to be pretty clumsy or unlucky to do that
