Should i update to 1.29?? How do i know what firmware im running at the moment?

I don't have a Pioneer, but I don't think you would need to update the firmware, and I also don't think it will hurt if you do. So really, do whatever you want. If you're not having problems with your current firmware, then keep it the way it is.

I have that burner and updated,it just gives better compatibility when burning onto cheaper media!

You read that or you noticed that? I wouldnt think that compatability to media was necessarily a burning issue but an issue of the drive that is reading the media.
