Play backups w/o modchip

Hi:
I got my Xbox with X3 CE up and running. But I was wondering if there is anyway I can flash a friend's xbox using mine, so he doesn't have to buy a modchip just to play backups. If there's already a thread or tutorial please just let me know.

I think you can only play backup with the modchip installed

you can do a search on softmod. I would not advise this - especially for noobs - because it is so easily to render the xbox unoperational - and then requiring a modchip to rectify... better for the friend to go for the chipping option now... rather than later
