HITACHI 79 Play DVD Error

Hi,

Got a xbox 360 with a jasper motherboard & Hitachi 79FL dvd drive inside.

When i put original game in it says play dvd.

I hooked up x360 usb pro & dumped key from drive ok.

I flashed it to LT2.0b, but still same error.

I have now returned to stock & still same error.

I have also tried pot tweak from 4K to 3Kohms but still play dvd error.

Everything else with the console is good, live ok etc but this play dvd is annoying me now.

Ive heard it could be laser fault or possibly the wrong dvd key.

When you dumped it did it say drive spoofed as xxxxx under the source firmware?
xxxxx= drive make and model.

I have highlighted the bit that looks wrong.

It looks like the key has not been spoofed over. If you retrieved the key and loaded it into the source file, then you need to press the spoof to target button, to ensure the key and strings are transferred over

I would reload your original source Hitachi file in to source, then load the target firmware in the target file, then press spoof to target. Ensure top and bottom key match.

If you purchased this like this and it wasn't playing games before then it may just have the wrong key

I did exactly what JF tut says when flashing a Hitachi 79 drive & it doesnt say you have to use the spoof to target button.

When i first hooked everything up & dumped the key, the drive was on stock already.
When i progressed through the tut, JF auto loads the CFW & when i checked both target & source the keys matched.

I bought this console from a friend of a friend & they said it would either come up with Play DVD or Open Tray.
But when i first powered the console up & put original in it, i got play dvd.
When i flashed it to LT2.0b, some back ups would say play game but nothing.

So would i still need to spoof source to target on JF even if tut doesnt advise this???

I'm just going to share my own experience with a Falcon I just fixed fifteen or so minutes ago. Open tray, popped a new laser in, got Play DVD on retails and it would load to a black screen if I tried to play anything, movies included. Tweaked the laser a few ohms and everything works. Sounds like you may have the same issue if your friend said it switched between Play DVD and Open Tray, that's almost always a laser issue. Uber has a guide posted in the tutorials section on pot-tweaking, give that a shot and see what happens, the flash you did was fine as far as I can tell. Worst case you'll drop $6 on a new laser or something, Hitachi/Samsung lasers usually are pretty cheap.

The drive does play normal dvd's & cd's but not any games.

So do you think it's worth a shot getting another laser??

I did try a bit of pot tweaking as per my original post but nothing.

Are the samsung laser & hitachi lasers similar?

I have an old samsung ms25 dvd drive lying about that works, could i take the laser from that & fit into hitachi drive just to eliminate that process??

Ah, sorry, missed where you said you already pot-tweaked. Unfortunately I'd say it's the wrong drive key if you can play movies on it, your only real option is to RGH the console to recover the key.

Yes mate, its just a case of doing the glitch, retrieving the key and then flashing the nand back to original, and removing the coolrunner.

Then you will have the key to flash to the drive

LoL jaspers dont come with Hitachi dvd rom-s they come with Liteon DG16d2s. So my 2 cents would be on this: your friend f*cked up, and bought a random hitachi and replaced it.

So RGH the console and ull ge the correct key.
