Falcon on 16202 LT+ 3.0 and stock as well . I have fixed and flashed a lot of xbox's . Red rings open trays , j-tagged and rgh'd for keys . This is something I have never seen . I bought a box on ebay that had open tray . I cleaned it up , dust and stuff and fired it up with stock firmware just to get the lay of the land . The dvd spun and failed to read over and over . The laser kept coming on , read then stopped , read then stopped . I tried a bunch of lasers , some weak and some "brand new " ;) . I got the same response from good strong lasers . Then I tried flashing LT+ 3.0 . Now on retail xgd2's I get the play dvd , but on retail xgd3's I get play game , it fires up fast then stops and shows play game again . Most burned games show play dvd but some say play game and fail over and over . If it was the wrong key , wouldn't I just get play dvd ? I put in a known working dvd on stock without flashing to the motherboard and got the same play game spin up and play game again . I'm stumped . I searched threads until my fingers were numb and my eyes crossed . Anyone have this ? Or does it have a descriptor ? I would be happy to figure it out myself , just can't find a thread dealing with it . I have fixed plenty but still count myself a noob , so be gentle .

have you tried a dvd movie ? chances are it will work as its the wrong dvd key

do a quick glitch and see if the key was good or not :)

Movies play , it's just the play game thing that I don't get . I'll pull it out of the oven (kidding) and glitch it tomorrow ;) Thanks for the quick response

Before you go through the trouble of glitching for the correct key try a different worm gear, or a different drive board with the same key. If it is a BenQ drive, I feel for you. They are my arch nemesis...

Hi , too late . The key is good . Yes it is Benq , I love them , just so you know . I flashed the good drive . Still no change , It says play game and the laser is moving . I move it to both extremes and it settles a quarter inch in from the center of the write . Some times it moves a teenth in either direction . I would try another board and worm , but isn't that the same as a new drive ? When the whole thing started , stock stock , the drive would try over and over . Laser on , spin fast , laser move , laser off and spin stop , repeat . It's not like a dying laser , where it just turns off . It would try forever near as I can figure . Weird

Was the donor drive that you flashed with the key truely a NEW drive or just one sitting around. In my experience BenQ drives are the most picky ESPECIALLY when it comes to worm gears. Is the drive making any sort of noises when its attempting to read? Closest I can come to describe it is maybe a chirping.

Hey yet another follow up . I almost threw out a handful of HOP-141x lasers thinking they were toast . Phew ! This issue seems to be on the mobo . Changing lasers , cables and drives did nothing . I reflowed it into oblivion , sorry . On the plus side , I learned a lot about "new lasers" ;) . I received some , with deplorable pot settings out of the "factory sealed" packages . I figured some gentleman was just turning them down until they read , scraping off the copper and label and throwing them into a pile awaiting "factory sealing" . When I started doubting the mobo , I fished them out of the garbage , gave them an alcohol bath and started testing them on a good system . Painstaking , to be sure , but the results were worth it . I turned them all up to 3.5 and tossed them in a d2s . 6 out of 8 fired up fast and crisp on burned xgd3's . I kept turning them up (up is so much better , and faster) until they got a wee bit sluggish . One of them was still fast and crisp at 8.5 ! One , likewise at 7.7 . I had a couple in the high 6's , one 5.5 and two a tad above 4.0 . So , just because the copper is gone and the pot maybe set below 1.0 , don't pitch them or return them until you put them through the paces . Save your copper plates (pretty sure they are heat sincs) . as they are just hot glued on . Hope this helps you folks . Now a few questions . Do they still makes VADs ? Do they still make HOP-141x's ? Do d2s's require less power through put ? Anyone ? The reason being , if it's toast on your Benq , it might still be able to rock your d2s's . Thanks all . kevgo

Anybody still reading this ? I ran some tests on lasers in a good just laying around benq and a similarly , dg-16d2s and found that on average a laser in the latter fires fast and crisp with the pot set nearly a full ohm higher . Or is it twenty ? I have an auto ranger . Save those benq lasers .
