I use XBMC, ftp what I want to the drive and away I go... with a net connection it'll get the dvd cover and all the film info and save it so I can show it to friends who are curiou about the film.

Hellraiser 1-6 and some cherry pepsi and I am one happy camper! When I get the larger drive will be the whole of the Nightmare on Elm Street & Fri. the 13th series...

Well there are things you have to remember about XBMC. Depending on where you get the distribution from, some codecs for playing files will not be included. I get my distro off the usenet and it always has a ton of codecs preinstalled. Have yet to get a file that I have not been able to play in XBMC.

All I do is DivX and XviD. Download all my TV from btefnet.net, and XviD anything I rent (only 85 movies so far).

I run it all from a samba share, though..... Have a fileserver with a couple 160 Gig drives to hold everything and stream to whichever TV....

I get my XBMC off of usenet to. Damn them and there weekly updates  got the latest one, and it's still like that :( I think... one of the files I found it doesn't play, is XSVCD? It also does not like HDTV 700 MB per 20 min, AVI files.... it lags to much and can't handle it.... But then again, my 2.4 GHZ had a little trouble keeping up with that also, so I guess it's not XBMC's fault.

yah streaming video over a wireless connection is not ideal at all. run yourself some cat5. its well worth the effort.

XBMC is the reason i modded my xbox. i really waned a media center solution, but couldnt find one that could do half of what XBMC could do (even for double the cost).

XBMC rocks.

I do run cat5 ;)

However...it should play with wireless, just as fine. It only transfers like... 30/40 KB/s for most divX movies.

No, I have cat5 (100Mbps) running to one xbox, and wireless to another.

My TV/XviD movies stream well over the wireless if I don't try and fast forward. Every so often they struggle...

On the 100Mbps cat 5, no worries ever.

Yea, I found the "floating" compilations are missing alot in the area of files. Compile it yourself and it flies (so well I have some minor alterations to do but my damn wife is playing Spyro on the thing at 1 AM  )

Damn thing.... it just doesn't like reading from my network :(

Can anyone else... with more then 2 networked PCS, simply click on the "SMB Network" ? I have to set mine up manually.... When i try to play some asian vids, half dont work :( when I FTP them over, they seem to... Wondering if it's my computer or what... since I havent had the problem with video files on my third computer...

Might have to put my media HD in the third computer from now on... Guess I'll delete my network, and Re-add it first, see if that fixes anything
