Hi, apologies in advance for the noob questions, but that's what this section is for, right?

Background: I have a Falcon, dash and kernel 2.0.16202.0, that I've got second hand. I'm very new to the 360 scene, but I have been reading. I'm interested in RGH/R-JTAGging it, so I can run games from HDD, inc XBLA, and homebrew (I know there isn't much of that). From what I've read, I'm not bothered about flashing the ODD as it sounds awkward regarding burning discs the right way, and I don't think an ODE is right for me either, given that I also want XBLA games. I do like the idea of being able to go on Live from time-to-time, with genuine discs. I'm reasonably good at soldering - I soldered my Xecuter 2 on my original Xbox, and a NAND reader on my 3DS XL.

So, I think the best choice for me is a CR4 XL, and a DemoN for dual-NAND.

I have a few questions:

1, I have deliberately not connected the 360 to Live so as to keep the dash/kernel that I got it with (2.0.16202.0). Is there any reason for me to not update it? As far as I know, it's not old enough for JTAG or RGH1, so I might as well update it, but I wanted to check first.

2, I understand the CR4 XL can do R-JTAG+ and RGH2+ on a Falcon. Is one "better", or preferable, than the other and if so, in what way?

3, With the DemoN I understand that as well as the dual NAND you need to have two Xbox profiles, one for Live, one for RGH/RJTAG, and in fact it's better to have two HDDs. I'm worried about the risk of not having the correct HDD installed for the correct mode, especially if I let other people use the console. Is there any way to have, say, two partitions on the HDD that the two NANDs will automatically switch to correctly? Or have two drives connected at once automatically selected depending on the NAND, without having to physically change them?

1. If you plan to install a DemoN, you might as well update the dashboard version (CR4 RGH2+ and R-JTAG+ will still work fine).

2. You can use either method, but if you purchase a CR4 bundle with the QSBs, you should use R-JTAG+.

3. I suggest you use two HDDs - one for the XBOX Live (stock) NAND and another for the DemoN's NAND.

Thanks, doesn't look easy! I was hoping there would be a kit I could just buy.

Ask hundshammer he may be kind enough to make and send you one if you paid him for his time and the parts. Never know it could be worth a shot
