hi guys i have a problem with my pc when im trying to run games.

i have a pentium 4 1.8
256mb ram
120 gig hdd
and a abit siluro 64 mb geforce 2 mx400 video card
running windows xp service pack 2.

right then heres the problem....

in windows the display is fine brightness and everything is good. when i run a game ( quake 3 duke nukem 3d quake 2 etc )the screen goes dark, i have adjusted the brightness in the games and tryed most of the changeable settings in the games and it just seems so dark, unplayable. the monitor is a old packard bell monitor as mine is f**ked, windows detects it as a plug and play monitor. i have tried using the drivers that windows reccommends ( microsoft ones ) and i have downloaded the latest drivers from abit.com and there the same.

this is doing my f**king head in!!!! please help me .

I think its like running purple race fuel in a model T. It can work but not very well. Your drivers and monitor don't seem to get along.

Now this is just a guess but...

Set your reresh rate to 60 Hz. If you have a high resolution and high refresh on an old monitor the "cathode" cannot recharge fast enough to "stimulate" the pixles on your "phosphor-coated screen"

Your other option is to stop being a tight-ass and buy a new monitor... :D :D :D

Gods honest truth... I have a monitor I bought in Korea from a guy selling all sorts of weird fish... I think he had eels and squid from what I remember... it was sitting in the back corner and I offered 10,000 won for it... (about $8.00 US)

It's a Hansol... which is the only words in english on the whole thing. It's one of those old school huge monitors... it's got a 22 inch display... and it still smells a little like fish! :)

It'll only run at 60 Hz or it goes dim. I was told that it was because the cathode gun whatever was weak... like I said.

God only knows what's really wrong but setting it to 60 worked for me:D
