Please help an old modder with his Slim 250GB Goals =[

Ok, I am not new to modding consoles, but I have been out of the scene since soldering original xbox chips. So I have lots of catching up to do. I have read tons and I am still a little confused. Lets begin.

Goal: To transfer my backups via FTP to be run off the internal 250GB drive. It would be nice if I could run them off LIVE safely as well…

First I dug myself into the whole “Mod your DVD drive” Hole… I ALMOST bought a USB programmer, power module, and probe for my Liteon DG-16D4S (for ~$110). Only at the last second I realized I would be trapped in the never-ending hole of Backup Disks, would need a special burner, and would be stuck at the mercy of the slow speeds / bad reliability associated with optical drives. When I discovered the NAND / JTAG mods I cancelled my order.

The New Dual NAND Demon chip looks like a perfect fit but it looks like it will be at least a month before orders ship.

My Xbox is a slim, manufactured in 2010, I have disassembled it and I am really itching to buy a chip!!! One concern I have is I just updated the MS Dash(Forced, to log in to live) ~2 weeks ago… Does this impact what chip I could / should buy? Sigh.

Should I buy a XECUTER COOLRUNNER SLIM BUNDLE, Xecuter NAND-X, and a Low-Loss 50 ohm Double Shielded Cable? Would this cover me in every way? Will my backup work with live? Is this ALL I need? (There always seems to be something you forget to add to the order).

Also, what is the best Modded Dashboard? Hopfully there is one that supports FTP, and XBL.

Thanks for any help in advance!

::EDIT:: Wow my old account is here from 2004... Looks like the post counter is reset though :p

Your looking to reset glitch hack. You need nandx, coolrunner, nandx to coolrunner update cable, and I suggest post qsb. Your console should have a trinity motherboard. Xbox live will result in a instant ban until demon is released and you can switch back and forth.

As stated above. If you want live you will have to wait for tge demon.

But remember, even with the demon you will still need your originals for live. The glitch for your backups and homebrew and emulators and the original nand for your Xbox live experience.
Thanks for the reply.

So, if i plan on using live with my originals it is pointless to buy an Xecuter CoolRunner.

I had hoped there might be a way to install an on / off switch to the CoolRunner to enable "Stock mode" to play on live with my original disks. I guess not... that's is where the Demon comes in?

So, as far as live goes, it's Mod your optical drive, and deal with a pile-o-disks.... Or wait for Demon.

Looks like buying a Cool Runner Now would be a waste of money, considering the NANDX programmer will not be needed to program the demon =/

::EDIT:: Looks like there will be a CR "ADDON" - http://www.maxconsole.com/maxcon_forums/showthread.php?187862-New-Pictures-of-Team-Xecuter-DemoN -- I wonder if this will be a cheap way to get Full Demon functionality on a Pre-exsisting CR install...

Even with demon I'm pretty sure you'll still have to deal with your pile-o-discs as the backups that will be running completely off the hard drive will only be useable running the rgh.
I you aren't interested in the rgh, just buy the stuff to flash your drive, and install your games to the hdd. That way it will at least save your laser some stress.

What I did is RGH'd my slim as well as flashed the DVD drive with the Sputnik switch. So, when DemoN is released, I can play my backups/emulators off my HDD on the glitched NAND and then switch to stock NAND to play burned backups off the flashed drive on live.

You have confused me.

Running a new dash in "RGH mode" on a demon, i could transfer my backup files directly to the internal 250GB without the need for a disk, then play them from there, right?

When i want to play on live, I switch the Demon to "stock mode" and use the original game disk to play online. The pile of "live" games will be very small, but I like having the option.

I would consider going the drive modification route if there was a DVD-DL-RW format that i could use over and over again to make transfers to the internal HDD, lol. I hate disks, and i hate having to replace my DL burner for the newer backups =/.

Thoughts?

If i get a Sputnik switch can I just flash my DVD through the Demon chip, or would i have to buy all of those pesky, costly tools (CK3i, X360USB PRO, LiteOn iHAS324B = ~$130), just to flash the DVD?

Anything drive flashing related you'll need a ck3 product for power. And with a slim I'd recommend a USB pro to make your life a lot easier as they tend to net get along very well with via sata card.

Edit: the products you buy for flashing the drive will come in handy for the life of your Xbox. If you intend on using live you will need to stay on top of firmware updates.

No you need the tools. If you want to save some money, there are some modding services that allow you to just send in your drive and they can install the switch and flash it for you. They already have a CK3 power source and a X360USB PRO so they would charge less. For example, WNYConsoleServices just flashed mine when I sent my slim in for the RGH service. It runs about 40$ to do it (or 20$ if you send your console in for RGH service as well), but that saves you from buying most of the stuff. Then you can find an ihas124-b on some sites (microcenter.com if you are in the USA) for only 20$ still. That would probably be the cheapest option for a one time install.. unless you plan on doing more DVD drive flashes, in which case I would recommend investing in a CK3i and a X360USB Pro.

From what you are saying, I'd wait for the demon, back ups on the hd with no need to get up and change discs every time you want to play a different game and then the live side with only a few originals to use on live, don't worry about modding the dvd drive. Also to be safe I use two hd's one for live and one for rgh and emulators etc. and don't mix the two.

Sounds like you got it. You could also use an external hdd for you rgh stuff. Go as big as you want and still be able to use your internal hdd for the live mode.
