Hi every one. I have just glitched a falcon with wire install with dash 14699. Its fast so im happy but when i boot into nxe the fans build up & up untill they get a bit loud, dont think they are quite 100% but they must be close.
Before the glitching & when i boot into xell they are normal. I have built images with both freeBOOT_ToolBox_Maker291 & multibuilder 0.7 & they both make the fans spin out of control. The GPU heatsink is warm but defo not hot!
I have checked my soldering but due to fans being ok in xell i dont think its my soldering!
The only thing that wasnt straight forward was when trying to flash the hacked dash with rawflashV4, it froze on me! I left it powered for a good 10minutes before i final pulled the plug.
Any one had this? Any ideas?

Thanx in advance..

Standing in the rain
Flash your stock nand image back to the console and disable the coolrunner. See how the fans react then. If good then post some pictures of your soldering to each point, both front and back side of the motherboard and as close as you can get without blurring it out.

Is this the first time you have taken this falcon out of the cage? If the thermal paste has never been changed on it then chances are when too the mobo out of the cage you broke the contact between the allready worn out thermal paste and the heat sinks. I ALLWAYs change the thermal paste when I take a mobo out of the cage for the first time.

Thanks keil423 for the suggestion, i never lift a mobo out of the cage with the heat sinks but yes its the first time i have removed it. I will give your suggestion a go later on as now im in the middle of cooking dinner for the family!
If this is the cause then why would the fans in xell act normally?
Cheers..

Thanx RickSizz, i will give your suggestion a go after replacing the thermal paste but same question, if my soldering is questionable then why are fans ok in xell?
Really think its the hacked nand image!
Cheers..

Xell requires much less use of the system resources then what the dashboard does. Not as much draw = less heat to transfer.

It could be your freeboot image. You could just try to re flash it or even create a new one to flash to it. That would eliminate that variable.

Only just got back on the falcon fault finding! Little one is in bed!
Here are the photos of soldering.

Not bad me thinks any experts got an opinion?
Right going to do the thermal paste now..

Cheers..

Edit - The new thermal paste did the trick, fans have stopped blowing all the xmass cards off the sides so im happy! Thanx for the help..

Silly question, but I have heard it happen before: Did you reinstall the plastic shroud that goes between the fans and the heatsinks? That is a sure fire way to get it hot and the fans to rev up. If they are revving up over time it is almost certainly overheating. Physically feel the bottom of the case to see if it is hotter than hell.

Op thats actually nice soldering.. Well done.. Which solder (mix) do you use and iron?
Thanx.. I have a variable heat soldering station that i have set to optimum temperature just through trial & error. Think i got it from Maplins. Not sure of the ratio of the solder sorry. Also use no clean flux pen, again its old so sorry dont know the type as label has faded/worn.

Thanx to all that have help its much appreciated.
