Please help. how do u flash a bios step-by-step

everytime i try what those sites say to do it comes up on my Xbox "Insert Flashing Disc" but i burned the BIOS.bin and a dummy file to a DVD-R using Nero 6, and i made it an ISO, but still obviously my xbox does not respond to the disc, i have read those web sites many of times, believe me, but nothing seems to work, so now im trying to just FTP the Xbox.

I guess he decided to ask both questions at once and see which way worked quickest for him.)
What I don't understand is why soooooo many people seem to think moving all the software over to the box by disc is going to be easier then setting up a network. Networking is relatively painless. all you need is the right cable/hardware.
