Can't swap a Lite-on with a Hitachi. Two completely different drives. Buy a Lite-On.

Come on man. The guy above you said that hitachi and liteon are different drives. Doesn't it make logical sense that benq and liteon would be different drives too??

Get a liteon and then report back.

seeing as this is the noob forum i thought it was agreed to answer questions and help even if it sounded a stupid question, but no way as near as the stupid answer you got!
I too have used a benq in place of a liteon, that was in the past when you could spoof one drive to pretend it was another, microsoft got wise to this and now it is no longer possible to spoof. If your box is jtagged or rgh (i think) you can use any drive you like as long as you have injected the correct key for the xbox.
so if you want to go on live, you need the correct drive for your box and the only way you will find that out if your box may have had a spoofed drive in is from your jf log. then simply buy one of that type and inject your key into either stock firmware or the latest iextreme firmware and play your backups
hope this helps

Helping uneducated and helping lazy are two different things entirely. I have no problems answering very nicely to questions that may seem obvious to the OP. But when something is literally stated one post above you, then I start to get suspicious...

he only questioned the answer, as he had previously replaced one make with another
we are all noobs at the begining, its an old saying but i think it should be a rule in the noob section of the forum, if you havent got anything constructive to say, then dont say anything.
no need to noob bash !

Just to clarify....

Spoofing is no longer supported.

You can swap a lite on for a benq, just swop the key - it is not live safe at all

You cannot use the Hitachi in the same way due to the way the Benq and Lite on read the disc - i think it is called the ap challenge (i may be wrong on whats it called) - the hitachi and sammy's don't do this challenge and therefore those xbox's aren't expecting a response in the same way a benq/lite on box would.

another important note to add to all of that - any time you do a major update you may need the original drive.

So you would be best off shelling out the $20 and getting a replacement lite on

(happy to be corrected on any of that, just how I understood it)
