Can you still boot FlashBIOS from bank 2? If not your recovery just got a lot more difficult.

From FlashBIOS I've only ever loaded 1MB BIOS files (only ever needed to use it twice) but I did see a post somewhere that it could be done with a 512KB. Not saying you can do it with 512KB, just that someone *said* it could be done. I'm not aware of it working at all with only a 256KB flash. Don't know what 256KB BIOS you're working with, but I would recommend the newest X2CL 5035 BIOS. Nice configuration options by simply changing a file on the HDD.

If you need to build a 1MB file then check out the X2 programmer and BIOS manager turorial linked on the Team Xecuter front page. Skip to the part where they actually start loading BIOS files into the BIOS manager. Then instead of using the flash option select save. Tada, 1MB BIOS file ready to go. Remember that in X2BM banks 1 & 2 make up switch bank 1, banks 3 and 4 make up switch bank 2. If you use the X2CL BIOS this will fill up a pair of banks in X2BM, put FlashBIOS in the rest.

Yes I can boot flashbios from bank 2. So can i just get the 1mb x2 bios and flash from bank 2 and everything will be ok? isnt bank 2 (3.03) just for 1.6b's?

And i just got the x2 5035 bios but i dont know what to do with that config file.

You can flash from bank 2, but I'm not 100% sure if the bank switch should be set back to bank 1 once FlashBIOS is loaded. I believe this is the case, should start writing at the beginning of the chip.

Rembmer, there is no 1MB X2 BIOS to "get." You need to build it on your own. Refer to the X2BM tutorial I pointed you to, replace the two loads of X2 4983 BIOS with a single load of X2CL. (Put FlashBIOS in the other banks for recovery if needed.) Also, you got 2 bin files in the X2CL archive, 1 for 1.0-1.5 xboxes and 1 for 1.6+ xboxes. Be sure to use the correct one for your box!

There are two versions of FlashBIOS, I copied from the Team Xecuter download area-
FlashBIOS v3.01
Legal utility for updating your X2 or X3 mod with another Bios. Works on all versions except v1.6b
FlashBIOS v3.03
Legal utility for updating your X2 or X3 mod with another Bios. Works on all versions except v1.6
On my 1.0 xbox I'm pretty sure I could load both of them without issue, I would think the same would be true up through 1.5. Only is a problem on the 1.6 and up boxes, it's an either/or deal it seems.

The config file will go on your E (or F if you've got it) partition on the HDD. The settings in there control the boot characteristics of the BIOS. What colors it uses, what dashboard it loads, etc. (if you don't know what a dashboard is then you've got more research to do. this is important.) There are a couple utilities available to assist in editing this file, but it is only plain text and can be edited in a text editor like notepad. Check out the X2CL specific forum for more info, read through the stickies.

No, you don't want or need a 1 meg bios. Get X2 5035. It will be a 512k file. Flashing that will put 5035 on bank 1, and leave 3.03 on bank 2, even if you boot and flash from bank 2. Be sure to use the proper file for your version Xbox. 3.03 works on 1.6b and 1.0-1.5, it just doesn't work with a 1.6.

The config file goes on either the E or F partitions. It doesn't matter. You can change settings, or you can leave it how it is.

fantmx, thanks for the info. It's been a long time since I've needed to work with FlashBIOS and the directions I had always seen were to use a 1MB file. I was going with the "tried and true" to me. I'll revise my directions when helping others as I know you are a hundred times more an authority on the subject than I. Does FlashBIOS start writing from the beginning of the chip regardless of bank switch position?

Agreed tho that BubbleWrap's bank 1 got boned by the 256KB flash?

Yes, Flashbios will always flash the first 512k to bank 1, and the second 512k to bank 2. There really is no need for a 1 meg bios, because using a 512k file will leave bank 2 alone.
