Hey guys I need some help.

I am more than capable of carrying out the installation of the X3 chip and ,under normal circumstances, flashing the bios.

However, I have an xbox v1.4 that is telling me that it has an error code 13 which is preventing it from loading the dash for some reason or another. It won't allow me to load Auto Installer Deluxe 2.1 from disk to re-install the dashboard and so I suspect that it is probably a corrupt bios!? (Could I be wrong?).

Anyhow it is probably time that I treated myself to a modchip anyway but the question that I ask is, Will the inability to boot the xbox prevent me from being able to get to the FlashBios screen on the X3 or is that inbuilt?

Anyway, thanks in advance

I had the same problem, but mine had error 3. Have you got the x3 switch on the front of your xbox, i forgot to make sure i had the banks set as the first time i flashed. ( on on off off on) , after setting them it downloaded auto installer 2.1 a treat.

Were you trying to boot the auto-installer disk on a non-modded Xbox?

If so, this will not work!! Once you have your X3 and have flashed it with the newest X3 BIOS, you should be able to boot from the CD.

You will need to restore the MS Dashboard, which is what's causing this problem.

Thanks

No, it wasn't an unmodded box that I was trying to boot Auto-Installer on but it isn't fitted with a chip. The Mod (done by someone else) i'm assuming is based on a tsop flash of some kind, or possibly even a softmod as when I have taken the case apart it doesn't have any form of chip fitted.

May I say thanks for your swift help on this matter as I had visions of have to start de-soldering eeproms and all sorts!

Am I right in thinking that I will be able to flash the X3 even though the Xbox won't boot or am I going to have to buy an external programmer? Obviously with a working box this would be the case, but I'm not sure with the knackered one!

Thanks again,

Jay

Not on this planet!
Put the X3 in enable it and it will boot fine to the Flash Bios. Once you flashed your X3 with the latest X3 Bios you can then put your auto installer on.

Just so you know, FlashBIOS booted from an LPC modchip will load regardless of the condition of the TSOP or EEPROM.

Don't get the TSOP mixed up with the EEPROM as they are two entirely different things.

Yeah sorry, my wording was off there! What I meant by desoldering the eeprom was to rescue the hard drive that I have taken ages to fill with various games and films.

Anyways thankyou very much for your help guys, I was (as said before) a tad worried that I might have been 'Up the Creek' so to speak.

Thanks
