Xbox Scene posted this message on the 24th Feb:

http://www.xbox-scene.com/xbox1data/sep/EEpAkZlplpUtztJKei.php

What I found most interesting was this:

It's unclear if huge demand for the machine is simply more than the rate at which consoles can be supplied to retail, or if the somewhat likely situation of a new Xbox console release is imminent for March, and is the reason why existing stock levels have run down low to make way for a new model - similar to Sony's PlayStation 2 before they launched the slimline machine back in November.
Does this indicate that a new 'slim' Xbox may be released shortly? I have noticed that stores in the UK have depleted stocks of Xbox and with the recent finding of a 1.5 Xbox motherboard in an Xbox Manuf. Dated 2005 along with a brand new Xbox bought last month having a manuf. date of 2003, it does seem to indicate that they are trying to shift old stock.

Keep your ear to the ground chaps and let us know if you hear anything!

I just opened one manufactured 01-05-2005 (in Utah, USA) getting all psyched up to do a 1.6 install, only to find that is a 1.5. I'll save the chip for another day and flash the tsop of this one. Anyone else in the US seeing this happen?

Either my couch or my chair.
maybe ms got tired of reading through all the forum posts here relating to 1.6 lpc rebuilds. besides, its pointless to use the 1.6 as a tool against modding anymore, since the rebuild pcbs come standard with most chips now.

Microsoft won't be releasing a slim Xbox now when they plan on releasing Xbox 2 in the 4th quarter.

so true.....

I have to admit, It does sound like m$ are getting rid of all their old stock to make way for something new, But if they were gonna make one dont you think info on it would have been leaked by someone... Just a thought but i would love it if one was to come out..:)

I don't know man
I'm have A ps2 and PS2SLIM (one online one not)
As I have An Xbox and A xbox MODDED (one online one not)
My point is that I've heard rumors of the Xbox 2 being called something other than Xbox2 with sony set to release the PS3 there is NO WAY microshaft will name it Xbox2 there by making it appear as if they are "behind" sony.
While I belive that there is An Xbox 2 to be released this year at E3 I DO NOT believe the original Box will go slim My theory......we are talking about 2 seperate things that are actually 1 what I mean is nobody seems to think that maybe JUST MAYBE the NeXbox will actually be called something like Xbox(insert word here)SLIM?

Chew on that

Names I've heard: XBOXII[2]/X[Z]enon/or "Next" (.....).

However, I also heard that Xenon wouldnt happen because that would have some kind of Copyrighting Junction with Intel. And if it were called "Next"?......I think the name itself would spoil the system horribly. XBOX II/2 sounds fine to me.

I guarantee that they won't use Xbox 2 for the official title. Sounds like it's well behind PS3, and trust me, M$ can't afford to **** this one up!!! They've got over $12 Billion into their Xbox division, and it didn't turn a profit until 4th Q 2004!! (Halo 2 release) They're pressing the next-gen console fiercely in order to get a head start on PS3, and if they release Halo 3 on the drop date, I see great things for M$. Along with hiring Hironobu Sakaguchi, Final Fantasy series lead developer, they'll have a lot more succes in the east compared to the poor market share they currently have (in Asia).

As for the title, I'm betting on "Xbox 360" for now, which I've seen floating around various sites.

It's already widely rumoured that 'Xbox 2' is definitely not a choice.

I think either Xbox360 or XboxNext are very potential candidates.

Seeing the latest press release regarding a possible show at E3 for Xbox2, I now believe this is the reason why 1.4 mobo's are being shipped. These IMHO are older boards manufactured before the 1.6 was released and MS are now just trying to shift stock to make way for production of the next gen console.
