Possibly faulty chip?

i've just installed my x3 but cant get it to flash, i've tried ftp, disc and hdd installations but all fail. i have the switches set to on on off off off and have even tried taking the switch panel off so that the default settings kick in. what happens is that the warning screen comes up but there is no progress bar showing the flash taking place and the eject button starts fragging. i've checked my connections and they seem fine. another problem is that the switch mod off function using the power button doesnt work. i hold the power button but the panel doesnt change red as its supposed to do and the xbox just switches of.

i've even tried installing my x2 chip and everything works fine. it reflashes without any problems whatsoever.

i'm confused that the x2 works but the x3 doesnt. i would buy another chip but dont want to waste another £40 if its an installation problem :)

im having the same problem. does yours frag or does it flash green and amber? MIne flash's green and amber when at the warning screen. And i've noticed that when i go to shut the xbox off, if i look at the screen as i hit the power button, the progress bar appears right as it shuts off.

oh and if it helps i have a conexant vid encoder and samsung ram.

the eject button does flash green and amber and yes the progress bar does start when the xbox is switched off. it sounds like your problem is exactly the same as mine.

i dont think that its the pinheader or do point in my case because i paid for it to be professionally soldered. the only thing i can think of is a faulty chip because as stated my x2 works perfectly.

my vid is focus but i havent checked the ram type. i've also read a thread where the person was reporting the same problem as mine but no one seemed to be able to give him an answer.

surely on this website there are people who know the chips ins and outs and therefore should be able to give us a reason for our probs :)

check this: the LPC connector that follows X2.x is not compatible with X3 chip, solder in your X3 connector.

NOTE: remove a pin on the connector before you use your soder iron.

Look at the guide for your xbox version, to find out more.

i assume this is your error since you said you had tested with the X2 and it works.

Hope this helps

good luck

i think that the x2 can use the same pinheader as the x3 except that the x3 uses more of the pins so i dont think that the pinheader could be the problem?

ohhh, it's your problem, so if you fail to listen i can only say this:

take a close look on the guides and make up your own mind.

i'm not saying that your wrong but i have spare headers for the x3 and the x2 and i cant tell the difference between them. the reason i have spare x2 header is because i've ordered several of the chips for friends but used the xapter to install them.

what version of the Flashbios do you have? v3.0.0?

yes v3.0.0, ive tried installing ver 3.0.3, i presume it just has to be flashed like a bios file, but the same problem occurs.

i think that v3.0.0 might be the problem but i cant upgrade to a newer version.

do you know if my upgrade routine is correct ?

you say you have tried ftp, disc, hdd. i assume you mean http when you write ftp. :)

your routine seem ok, as long as your using the X3 LPC connector/all the pins X3 need.

if you're having a v1.4, i think flashbios v.3.0.0 should work very well.

still this seems like it's not a solder problem, as you get up the flashbios screen.

it must be a faulty chip however i dont think i can return it because i lost the receipt, however, i'll give the company a phone in the morning to see if they can suggest anything.

i would have thought that the executer admin would have came up with a solution because it appears that there are at least three others with exactly the same problem as myself :(

I would have gone over all the connections before i did that,
check for problems with the wires between the memory module and the chip.

i'll check everything again over the weekend, but if no success by mon then i'll try returning the chip.

thanks very much for your help again, its much appreciated.

everything seems to be working fine with the x3 except that it cant be flashed which is a real bummer because it make the chip relative obsolete.

one consolation is that i still have my 2.6 to fall back on :)

Absolutely the same problem here... I've tried re-soldering everything, the D0 is fine, nothing fixes it... I'm not sure what to try next...
