Post installation issue

I just completed installation of a Xecuter 3 on a V1.6 Xbox system. After validating all the connections, and flashing the bios the XBox was running smoothly. I replaced the HDD with a Maxtor unit that was from another XBox. Once installed I used the Config Live to format and partition the drive. I proceeded to copy back all the files on the C&E drives from the original drive. I noticed that the folders were not showing up properly so I began investigating. I thought that maybe I had to copy something from the Config Live to the HDD, so I selected copy bios from X3 to HDD. This apparently was not the correct thing to do, as now my XBox will not start. Unless this is some sort of coincedence, I beleive I have corrupted the Bios. The symptoms are:
Upon initialization the unit briefly (for a second) shows a green light, then the light changes to orange and the fan increases speed. Then after a few seconds the systems turns off. While the light is flashing orange I cannot open the DVD drive, or anything. I removed the HDD and DVD drive both power and data cables and the problem persists. When I try different memory banks or the 'backup' it does not work either. Could someone please suggest if they have seen anything like this before.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated...

I get the same results using the old HDD or booting with the backup boot flash. When I hold the two buttons together I get the purple light, but the eject light still changes to orange and the process is the same. Somehow I think I wiped out the entire flash. Is this possible? The same problem persists even without the HDD and DVD installed.

I'm assuming when you say "I selected send bios from X3 to HDD", you really mean "copy eeprom from X3 to HDD", if that is the case then it seems to me that you forgot to back-up your eeprom data from the original HDD, and when you selected transfer eeprom from X3 to Xbox you transferred garbage data because you did not have any eeprom data backed up on your X3.

The first thing I would suggest is to try using the original stock hard drive, to gain access to the original eeprom data, but this will only work if your hard drive is unlocked.

If you locked both your original stock hard drive and your new hard drive before you copied the garbage eeprom data, then you're sh*t out of luck because you won't be able to access those drives, since they we're locked with the original eeprom, and only the original eeprom will be able to make use of them and unlock them.

So it looks like you'll have to buy a new hard drive and purchase a Xbox v1.6 eeprom.bin file to use with it.

I saved the files from the original HD via FTP prior changing drives. So I have under the admin directory the eeprom.bin file. Could you suggest how to proceed with this next step? Once you format the new drive is it automatically locked? Also, even without the DVD and HDD installed the system creates these problems. Your help is greatly appreciated...

I just tried a spare Xecuter 2.6 chip, and I get the same results. Could it be coincedence, and maybe the solder loosened? Even without the HDD plugged in the system immediately begins flashing orange. From the previous posts flashing orange means a solder splash, but this was working fine until I pulled the EEPROM mistake. Is the eeprom located on the Xecuter board or the main XBox board?

The eeprom is located on the main Xbox board, but the .bin file is stored on your hdd.

Formatting doesn't automatically lock the hard drive, you have to manually lock the drive via the X3Config Live.

So if you didn't manually lock the new hard drive, it should still be unlocked. What you can try is preform a low level format on the drive via a PC, so that it no longer contains the garbage eeprom.bin file, then plug it into your xbox. Then if you can get it to boot, format it using the X3 tools, and then copy over the good eeprom.bin file from the admin directory that you backed up.

If that doesn't work, then I would suggest looking at your solder jobs.

I hope this helps.

I tried a low level format and it doesn't help. It appears something else is wrong, as it give me the flashing orange no matter what I do. Is it possible to corrupt the eeprom on the XBox main board? If so is there a way to potentially correct this? The reason I am suspecting this, is that all was running smoothly til I performed that eeprom function. Even with another HDD, or the original this does not get corrected. I appreciate all your help, but I think that the onboard eeprom is corrupted, as an alternate mod chip also has the same problems.

You've esentially currupt the eeprom by sending it garbage data, and the only solutions to correct the problem that I could think of did not work for you. Well I'm out of ideas, sorry I couldn't be of more help. Maybe someone with more knowledge could help??? "Paging Xbox Dr. Martin C" :D

I appreciate all you help and effort. If anyone has any more ideas it would be greatly appreciated. Just in case I will remove all the components and resolder from the start again.
