Hi Everyone, finally I am about to attempt flashing my VAD6038. I have the VAI 6421A SATA PCI Card to hook up in my pc, but cant get CK3 MINI anywhere in UK. Is it safe to power the drive via the Xbox 360 console. I have heard that its not advisable, but cant find why, could anyone advise me

Thanks

You can use the console, but we don't recommend it.

If you have an old RROD console somewhere, you can power the drive using that instead.

If you insist on using your own console to power the drive, make sure you insert the power cable the correct way around during power cycles or you will fry the IC on the drive's PCB.

I do have an old console suffering from RROD. So powering up the drive I want to flash in a totally different console is cool and will not effect the drive in any way

for your own refernce theres two main reasons why not to use the console

first is as Bl4key says, its very easy to invert the power lead and fry both the drive and console motherboard.

secondly when a console is powered and it doesnt see a device on the sata port it records a tamper flag in the secdata.bin.

to date i dont think anyone has recieved a ban for this type of flag, but i know i wouldnt want my console flagged before i even insert my first backup.
