Hopefully not to much of a silly question!

Tried doing the Nand x installation yesterday on a perfectly working xbox with negative results, took everything back off and finally got the xbox to boot again!

Had big problems with the red resistor wire on the jtag bit!!

Anyway done loads of reading again and ready for another go!

Was wondering if i could practice on a 3 red ring xbox to read the nand and see if my soldering skills have improved lol!

Would this be possible?

Thanks!

Yeah you can try it on a red ring and it'll dump fine just make sure you delete those dumps after so they don't get mixed up with your dumps from the exploitable box.

I take it you're working on a non-Xenon board if you're having issues with the DB1F1 JTAG point. Its best to use flux for all your soldering especially that point as its rather small. I cannot stress how careful you have to be once you get that point soldered because soldering a through-hole component (the diode) to a surface mount point (DB1F1) can cause the pad to be lifted which will result in you needing to use an alternate point. If possible solder a small bit of wire in between DB1F1 and the diode. This will help prevent the pad from potentially being lifted and usually helps with soldering to the JTAG point.

Yeah tried all that used flux like it said could not get any solder to stick in hole this was the hardest one! Maybe my tip was to big! This time im going to put the wires straight to the contacts on the nand side of things and practice some dumps qcb boards are knackered now anyway lol.

Havent got solder debriading wire!

Done that its reading at the moment so got further than last time lol!

With them pins after you de solder you push them into holes yes?

then do you solder them into place?

im going to keep them for a board that works not a red ring one.

Yes you'll remove the original solder that comes in the holes from the factory with either a solder sucker or desoldering braid/wick. Once the holes are clean slide the pin headers in and solder them on the underside of the board and you're in business.

Are all of your NAND dumps identical? JTAG Tool should check this automatically after 3 or 4 dumps. If they do then take one of those dumps and try to open it up in degraded. If your CB is one of the exploitable ones which is listed in the tutorial then you can continue the tutorial.
