Re: PRE-CR4, How's my soldering?+Tunning advice

I'd say it's goes either way with the 15w. It's great because of the small tip. The low level of heat can be both good and bad. I prefer to run my iron hot so I can get in and out quick. With the 15w you tend to have to leave it in place longer to get the solder flowing. For people who solder dry and refuse to use flux it makes it easy to get pads like the stby-clk to stick to the tip and pull right off.

It's also very difficult to do the NAND pins with a 15w. Especially the ground point or yellow wire for the nandx. I still sometimes have trouble getting that flowing even with my big iron set at 370c.

It can be done but I would still be inclined to recommend a 20-25w iron over the 15w.
I've tried using a 15w radioshack soldering iron and it didn't go so well for me. Well then again, I wasn't that good at soldering. Previous support posts from me on here were because of that iron. To be honest, it really couldn't melt anything. Botched up a completely good Jasper trying to install a QSB when all the solder clumped up and I couldn't melt it. :(

That's typically caused by a bad joint on the NAND qsb. Use flux and touch them all up. A couple points looked dry but not baD. Hit them all just in case.
I was able to read the nand before my Cr4 even came in though. Still worth a shot

Reflowed all points, still not working. :(

What should the voltage readings be from the nand points?

Should I try and turn the console on and see the error code I get?

did u write the ecc to the nand wen it worked before or did u just get 2 nand dumps and leave it at that.
Before it stopped working I had: Read the nand twice (matching, no bad blocks) ----> wrote an ecc ----> wrote back stock to see if it booted and then it did. I still have the nands though.

its time to send it to someone
I'm not doing that until I fully understand what's wrong with this console. + Can't be that bad since it still boots stock. That rules out bad SB rite?

Oook. Bad flash config could be a few things like loose wires going in to the jrp or bad joints as pointed out already and if you want the voltage on the pins look for Martin c on here he has them in his signature. Worst possible scenario is the spi is blown in the southbridge but its probably something simple. Ive had this happen a few times and good soldering and id try try and try until I give up and come back a week later and boom itll be working out of the blue and haven't changed a thing so keep trying hit reset, unplug console, restart jrunner, restart computer, etc. Just keep trying it will work eventually if your solder is good and you wires are good and drivers. But if it is spi blown you will have to read the nand with the demon.

And yes the console can still boot with blown spi

lol, thanks ablegepu. I'll try everything you said and give this board some rest.

I see that Martin C's post on the nand voltage points cover phat consoles. What about slims?
