I guess ill preface by saying ive sucessfully RGH a few phat consoles already with no issues like this.

I recently acquired a slim xbox and decided to try my hand at RGH it, and ordered the QSB boards, although ive only done wire installs up till now. I get it all soldiered on, and it wont boot. So i do some reading, looking at pictures, drinking some beer, and somehow decide that ive screwed up a non existant resistor, proceed to destroy the r3b13 point and line (i looked at some pics that had a 2nd resistor there on the contacts and assumed i had somehow knocked it off so i tried to add one there and really messed that area up) and the following pictures are where im at.

at this point ive stripped the qsb back off the board and cleaned up the soldier points. The red line of the point B area is where ive pulled the line out of the board (accident with hot glue and beer by that time it was 3am) scrapped the line above the resistor and below where the line pulled out, tinned it both sides, put wire down with a 33 ohm resistor (not shown cause im trying to show the damage) still wouldnt power on with that in place. I took it back off to take the picture. All of the resistors to the left and right measure correctly.

i know the first response will probably be to take it to a professional, but A: i dont know any and B: I like to fix my own mistakes or ill never learn and C: ive fixed a couple other xboxes (phats) like this already so i feel relatively confident that if i dont drink while i work i can figure this out.

do slims have to be in their case to boot? do they need the drive plugged in or something? it flat out doesnt do anything when i plug it in and try to power it on, thats what makes me assume the issue is this point ive screwed up

thanks for any responses/help/ideas. if it comes down to it ill just buy another phat and rgh it instead. maybe ill get lucky and get my pics in some modders **this is what you can do if you dont soldier correctly tutorial :) **

looks to be an easy fix, thiers still trace left from both the hana side and the other side.you will have to replace the resistor on hana point.ive seen alot worse than this.

thats what i did. i scrapped the trace by the hana and where the line broke off, and put in a 33 ohm resistor and still nothing.

thank you!

To answer one of your questions.. yes slims do need to be in the metal cage to boot on rgh.. not enuf ground thru the motherboard to boot the chip properly. I too struggled with this for several hours before installing it back in its cage and bam.. worked like a charm

This must have been one unusual console. Done a lot of slims now and never had any problems booting them out of their cages ever. I think it was probably your wiring at fault and it shifted when you put it into the cage.

Noone else has claimed this problem you had as far as my knowledge goes.

ended up being a very noob mistake on my part. it seems none of the threads or tutorials i have read havent mentioned that to start a slim with the faceplate off, you need to touch the contacts or have the faceplate hooked up. easy im sure for most, however the damn thing has a button that looks exactly like those on a phat console so i of course assumed thats how you power it on :D

thanks for any help provided, and a big thanks to dports.me for talking to me about the console over the phone!
