Probably another dumb question.

I am flashing the Hitachi 0078 FK drive, I was planning on using Maximus 360 Firmware Toolbox v3.0, im on a gateway mid tower pretty much stock.

Is there a DVD burner that is recommended so I can easily hotswap the discs using wxRipper? Can you just use a single layer DVD burner this way or does it have to be a dual layer burner?

Are there any know compatibility issues with gateway computers?

Thanks in advance for your replies,

Thanks for the info jelle

Im reading Textbooks PDF file on how to rip games using kreons firmware and its saying that you could use the IDE drive you were talking about or you can use a SATA drive. Is there going to be a big difference if I choose either one of the two?

Also, has anyone had any luck if they bought this Drive?
Samsung 18x Internal Double-Layer DVD±RW/CD-RW Drive Model: SH-S182M/BSBN
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=7943078&st=samsung+SH-D163A&type=product&id=1152227797113

The only reason I ask about the newer drive is because I am having trouble locating the SH-D162C Drive.

ALSO, the link to download XBins through 360mods.net is broken. Is there another reputable source to download it from?

Sorry for the repetitive questions of a noob, but I like to make sure that there is no way I can mess up my drive.

Thanks in advance,

Kreon firmware will only run on the SH-D162C & TS-H352C for IDE and SH-D163A & TS-H353A for SATA, the SH-S182M you linked to would only work if you removed the cover and did the wxripper hotswap method. But that drive is $81, you can get a SH-D162C with Kreon firmware and a Pioneer 112D (great burner for 360 games) for the same price if not a bit less. You can still get new SH-D162C Kreon drives on Ebay, I'll PM you a link to the seller I got mine from. The Pioneer 112D is around $35 on newegg.com. ;)

IDE and SATA are just 2 different types of connector, you want to choose whatever type your PC has. If you're not sure open it up and look at the cable that's going to whatever CD/DVD drive is in there now. If it's a wide, flat cable like this it's IDE. If it's a thin red cable like this it's SATA.

The Xbins download is working fine for me, follow the link here.
