Problem booting back into Windows after Slax

I have been snooping around these forums for a while (successfully flashed a few ms25 and ms28 Samsungs), but I have hit a snag in flashing my first Hitachi. The drive is a 47 Hitachi. I am using a VIA 6421 SATA PCI card with 5.30c drivers installed. This card is installed on a fairly old Dell computer with XP.

I can successfully get the Hitachi 47 drive into modeb with slax, however, when I reset my computer Windows XP will not load. Instead, I get a blank screen of nothingness.

Any ideas why this may be? Is it the chipset? computer?

Try the 5.40 drivers ensure you only install the drivers and not the RAID config.

Once you do get to the windows loading bar open and close the drive a few times as windows is loading (important)

No luck with that.

The windows xp loading bar is still not popping up. Just a blank screen.

But I heard that people have been able to use 6421 PCI cards with 078fk drives. Is this just because the firmware on these drives are so different?

You can use slax with that via chipset but it must be Slax2. The original slax version did not support this chipset. So, goto the downloads section and grab that one if you havent already but by the sounds of it you already have it in modeB.

Try waiting until windows is fully booted to plug the sata into your drive. So, put it in modeB with slax, unplug it, boot into windows, then plug it in. Or, try plugging it in during the boot process.

I have had a v59 that i couldnt flash with my via. I never figured out why.

Also, try the different ports on your card and different sata cables.

Thanks Caster. That worked.

Successful flashes: 1 ms25, 2 ms28s, and my FIRST HITACHI!

Thanks everyone else too for all your help.
