I have a new xbox 1.6b that has an Xecuter 3ce chip installed. After fixing the bios configuration (off on off off off) the Flash bios 3.0.3 screen comes on and I choose the "flash bios from disc" option, the drive opens and I insert the X3 Bios disc. The drive closes and whirs for about 10 seconds then opens and the screen says, “Please insert CD – Flashing Mode.” I tried putting the disc back in but it spit it back out. I tried to read all I could about creating the bios disc and I included the bios file and properly named it and created the 10MB dummy file. I burned them both according to the meticulous instructions but they are not working. Please help!

Try using a much bigger dummy file, at least 100 mb.
Boot up using off on off off off.
then change the switches to on on off off off BEFORE YOU FLASH. This is so that if the flash fails you still have a working flashbios on 5678.

Still not working

Thanks for you help. I have still not been able to get this to work. I created at 500MB dummy file to go with the bin file; also, I've followed the instructions meticulously and burned at a very slow speed. Also, I've set the bios switches to exactly these. I've tried 3 different kinds of media, including both CD & DVD. The disc always goes in and runs for a few seconds, then ejects, and then says, “Please insert CD – Flashing Mode.” I'm now really confused, please help. Thanks.

When you rename the bios file to bios.bin ,make sure it hasn't renamed to bios bios.bin.
I use a rewritable cd and this has worked on all versions of xbox.

It Worked!!

Holy sh*t, it worked!!! I can't believe that the CD-RW made that big of a difference! Anyone else having problems with a 1.6b; YOU MUST USE A CD-RW!!! Thanks everyone for all of your help.
