Problem installing new hard drive..

Heres my problem...
I got an 80 gig seagate hd from a friend of mine,It worked fine on his box. But i think it is locked, because when i hooked it up to my x-box and it goes right to the default microsoft screen. the only other screen i can get is to flash the bios by disabling the chip..I cant even boot off of my slayer disc for some reason.(and i know my boot disc works).I had slayer 2.6 installed on my stock drive with no problems..
I even tried to hook it to my pc via slave,and it wouldnt even boot windows with it hooked up. My pc bios does recognize the drive,but thats it...I put my orginal 10g drive back in my xbox and everything works fine.
What do i do to get this 80g to work? ArrGh!!

I have an Xecuter 3 chip installed w/ x3 1959 bios on a v1 xbox.

If it is locked then you'll either need to unlock it using the original xbox... or get the key and use the various PC Apps to unlock it.

In regards to the bootdisk... If it works in one xbox then it won't definatly work in another... There are a few different drives... all with different abilities to read CDR(W)s (I use DVD-R as they seem to be the most reliable)
