Hi guys, new here, this is my first post!

Right so, I got a new DVD drive and swapped it for my old DVD drive in my 360. It was the exact same model as the old one.
Now at this point I forgot that I needed to swap out the boards! So I put the new drive in and the system updated...when I try to play at game the screens goes black and then just returns me to the dash board (although it will play DVD movies).

If I NOW swap out the boards and put the old one in, I get the E66 error screen.

I'm stumped. Could I just extract the DVD key from the old drive and put in into the new one??

Yes that should work. Just like flashing the firmware to the C4E hacked firmwares, Just extract the key from BOTH drives. Do this so you have the original drive key and the key from the new drive. Since the console did a dash update, the drive should have been flashed to a new version which may have put the key onto the new drive. So dump the keys from both drives and compare. Also. When you are trying to play games, are you playing you backups? Or retail discs? The black screen is usually a result of obsolete AP25 sector on a burned game. Hope this helps buddy. Let me know how it all goes.

Thanks for the help man, its greatly appreciated...I've been trying to solve this for ages!
No I'm not playing backups at all. The only reason I replaced the drive was because the old one stopped reading discs (seriously MS, get your act together!).

So you think that i should be able to get the old drive key (the original) and put that into the new drive and voila??

I haven't done any of this before but it should be no hassle for me, but I'll need a SATA adapter right? And what about using a laptop, which is all I really have at the moment? Will a SATA to USB work?

Well if youre going to use a laptop, you're really gonna need the x360usb pro, and some kind of ck3 product with a molex adapter. You can get all of this at www.xconsoles.com They make a usb to molex cable for about $3, the x360usb is about $60, and the ck3i (recommended) is about $35. If you are able to purchase all of these things, I strongly recommend it. You will be able to mod almost any drive with these tools, and all drives if you pick up the probe III. But yes, try dumping the key off the original drive, and injecting that into the new drive. Make sure you save it to your computer too so you dont lose it. Dump the new drive and save the key (if there is one) before you put the old key onto the new drive.
