I am trying to flash my 0225 DVD drive using Gerimia drilling hack. i am using my built-in SATA drive (ICH7) and Jungle Flusher. i was able to extract the drive key without any issues. but when i am trying to put the drive in the vendor mode i got an error and the drive status is 0x51. i tried to reboot the PC many times and also i tried to use dosflash 9.1 with no success. can anyone help?

Did you actually get the spi unlocked? If you already have your key then you have successfully, at least once, gotten it into vendor mode. Did this happen after you did the drilling? One last thing that works for some people when it comes time to power cycle the drive do this.. power off then on wait for 0x51 then power off then on again quickly. This has worked in the past.Cog

Yes, i have extracted my key successfully. that was before drilling as i did not drill the drive yet. as you said that was able to put it in the vendor mode for one time, that is why i am tring to do it again. I will try your method. can i know what is the status 0x51 means?

I actually don't know what 0x51 is but it isn't what we want to see..my best guess is the drive in between regular and vendor mode but not actually in either..I have seen drives go through it everytime I put a drive in vendor mode..I have seen one older winbond drive stick in 0x51 once and needed a reboot and then it went into vendor mode so never need to figure out the problem..My guess is you drilled too deep and need a new chip or new board..Sorry to have to tell you that but at least you have the keys.Cog

I think but not 100% certain that status 0x51 is firm-guard which I believe means that the drive has firmware on it otherwise you would see 0xD0/0xD1.

When power cycling a drive, you want to be seeing 0x80 and then 0x72 (Vendor Mode).

Firm-guard never considered that I always thought that was in the mid/high 0x5's like 0x55 and 0x59 but now that you mention it that does make sense considering the problem he is having...Liteons are/were notorious especially in the earlier 74 series for errors with firm-guard if my memory serves me correctly.Cog

Actually, I am using the XBOX PS to power up to the DVD drive. when it comes to the power cycle I turn-off the XBOX from its power button and then power-on. is it ok to do so or i need another method?

Absolutely not that is a big no-no from what has been said the xbox logs when you start up without a dvd drive hooked up. At least build you a power supply from an old psu as schematics are all over the net. Or better yet buy and good quality one that has fuse protection like the ck3i which imho is the best and easiest on the market.Cog

Must power cicle in less than one second, otherwise it will not get into vendor mode. You need a ck3, x360usb.
