if you can play any backups then i would say the flash is good.
you need to keep in mind that the new ixtreme firmware will only play stealth backups.make sure you do your dumps and burns slow.

Ive tried searching around but not having much luck, or conflicting opinions?

Hitachi 46 with latest iXtreme firmware, tried a backup and received "an update must be applied to your console to play this, if you decline this update you will not be able to play this game" Needless to say at this time I have declined and cannot play.
So are these safe to accept? from what ive found out so far this update is just saved to the HD and needed to play the game, if HD formatted at a later date then the same update would be asked for again if loading that game. Is it possible that accepting this update COULD virus / conflict with firmware? Some answer its fine to do, some say it has nackered the xbox, I want to be sure, havent come this far to brick my xbox now!! lol

After a couple of days of hunting around, conflicting opinions etc, I accepted the update and all works fine. I was told the update will be applied to the Hard Drive and NOT the console, not sure if anyone can verify this?

Im using Aone DL dvds for burning too, Verbatims on the way after I noticed a ticking noise in my xbox rom reading backups, not heard it before and again the general theory for this is either bad media or weak laser, again not sure if this can be verified by somone with more experience?

Lastly, maybe I missed somewhere in the backup tut of XBC? But has anyone tried saving an image from XBC anywhere on the pc other than its own directory? Maybe a coincidence but every backup saved to another drive in my pc NEVER works once burnt, same game burnt from XBC own c: folder directory and works fine every time!? Any comments???
