X3 Build 1959
I installed the X3 and verified continuity to of the LPC header. I verified that both power LEDs were lit. I verified that holding in the power switch for greated than 1 second disabled the X3 and the original BIOS booted fine. Pressing power by itself presented me with the FlashBIOS 3.0.0 screen while pressing power and eject buttons displayed the backup FlashBIOS 3.0.0 screen. Proper display of the LAN, HD and RED/BLUE/PURPLE X3 logo was observed.
I set the dip switches to on on off off off and flashed the BIOS using HTTP (I tried IE 6 and Firefox 1.0; both gave the same results.) After flashing the BIOS (I received the amber status bar and then the bar was changed to green) the system shut itself down and I pressed the power button.
At that time the machine again booted to the FlashBIOS 3.0.0 screen. After that every time I power cycled the XBOX then I would get the FRAG error. The only way to get the system to reboot was to use the backup BIOS.
As I was checking everything, I disconnected the external switch and powered on the system; everything worked without me reflashing the BIOS. I entered the LC and was able to verify that Build 1959 had been installed.
I reconnected the external switch and the system again did a FRAG. I changed the swithes to off off off off off and the system booted fine.
As a further test I left the switces as off off off off off and flashed the 1957 build. It flashed as worked fine as long as the switches were all off (I thought that it would give an error as the BIOS was 1024KB and the setting were for 256KB.) As soon as I changed them to on on off off off I started getting a FRAG. Any other setting of the switches from off off off off off caused a FRAG.
My question, does this sound as if my external switch is bad or is it something else--such as user error on my part (this is the first such install I've ever done.)
