when i press both buttons on my xbox to boot the flash bios screen i see "read only" even when i have switched the flash protection to off. My xbox works fine i just don't understand why it's like that.

i'm using X3CE and don't see any switch on it. but before when i first flash the bios i just need to change the switches in the bank switch and it would work and i didnt change anything on the chip since then so i don't think that switching on the mod chip is the problem. i have one more question: what happen if you set your bank as off-on-off-off when flashing the bios for the first time? because i'm not sure if i use this bank or the other ( on-on-off-off). thanks

Hdd lock status should not have affected the flash. And for your info, it does not matter which bank you flash too, as long as you don't overwirte yoru only working version of flashbios (that only happens on v1.6b users)

but when i unlock the harddrive and turn the protection off then it works (instead of saying "read only", it shows Xecuter3 (2048))

i just checked it again, and found out that when i either lock or unlock the harddrive it will reboot to the flash bios screen and has "Xecuter3..." and the switch bank icon will turn blue instead of stay as the blue and red as before and i can't flash it. when turn it off and back on again it show "read only" again. you can still be able to flash the chip again right? thanks

Yes you can still flash the chip again. Is your chip secure on the pins? It's not wobbly at all is it? Gotta make sure its getting a good firm connection.

i got it working again, it was because of the hub for the cross-over cable. is it normal that my flash bios is 3.0.1 in the "256k backup"? and what happen if you flash the bios through the "256k backup"? do you still be able to flash again through this way? i've never done this before so i just want to make sure that it's safe.
