4)Boot to config Live
5)prep HDD using config live...no instruction needed..menu is intuitive
6)reboot and enter config live
7)ftp all of C & E back to new HDD

Lock HDD if u want to boot old M$ dash too

put stock hdd somewhere safe u never know u may need it again one day

Done
I did all of what was here and for all purposes it worked until part 7. When I tried to FTP my files back it acted like it was doing it taking 5 min for my C and 40 min for my E. Then I restarted my comp and xbox and checked and no files that I just took 45 minutes sending over (i watched FlashFXP xfer them and confirm they were there) and yet the files are NOT there!!!

Anyone have any clues for this poor poor novice?

P.S. I tried to do a check but keywords kept turning up nothing or too much =(

Yes I did. In xbox config live I clicked new hard drive then it gave me my options I chose all in F (although when it didnt work I redid it with all 3 options) then formatted. After formatting I rebooted and ftp'd all files over to no avail.

I found that I consistantly have problems with the X3 ftpd in the bios. I only use it to transfer a dashboard such as Evox, then I use Evox's ftpd to transfer everything else.

I've never had a prob with x3 ftp till now. And I would love to use it to FTP over my evox (which is the dash I use) except when I xfer anything including the dash from my comp via ftp it does what i said above. Sends the info says completed sending XXX files and then when I look for it it aint there. =)

Bump for Nubain, lol, we have the same posts here and at xbox-scene. I am having the same issue. I have tried command line ftp and its all the same. I see the dir for each partition. When I enter, theres nothing there. I ftp over the evox files and check, nothing. I reboot, nothing. I ftp again and still nothing. I was having a hard time getting slayers to boot of cdrw, my damn dvd-rw is broken and I am waiting for a replacement..so I can't burn to dvd-r to test and see if its the media. Nubain have you tried to burn Slayers and boot off of it? Let me know. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

clear things up on the ftping?

So to clear things up... U have formated and all that jazz is working...

U now want to ftp just the C and E ? that way you have your old shizz?

I would do at least one of the following...
#1 Use a live CD to ftp stuff in. Slayers disk works well for that.
Or
#2 Use avalunch or something to ftp in.

another question. What program are you using to ftp over your stuff?

Well I tried slayers on a cdrw and it wouldn't boot. I am waiting for my replacement dvd burner to come in (long story) so I can try it on dvd-r. But I wanted to ftp evolution x over so I can have a little more flexiblity. Maybe also so other dashboards..I am using flashfxp, I have used ie, and also command line with no luck.

I can connect its just slow tih the new hard drive, and with both I cannot see the contents..

I attempted that but no dice. I only have CD-RW's and I followed step by step the xbox scene manual and it didnt work. I am gunna assume 1.6 xboxs cant read CD-RW's since I know how to make ISO's and all that other crap in the tutorial yet it still didnt work.

As for what am I using I am using FlashFXP (newest version). I know it isnt the FTP program because I am using my old harddrive (when not trying to get the new one to work) and it FTP's just fine files always show up.

My new harddrive acts like everything is fine except the files are not showing in the folders after they are done transfering. hehe it's quite the quandry and no one can figure out what is wrong between the 2 forums.

I've had similar issues with ftp in X3. It came down to a crappy ftp client(WS_FTP 9.0). Try using smart ftp as a test. It's free.
