Problems flashing X3 with 3294

So here I am.
Xbox v1.0
Xecuter 3 chip
Flashbios 3.0.3
And trying to flash it via HTTP to 3294 (incidentally, what's with all the BS of having to go to an IRC channel to get it? Why not just put it in the downloads directory and save everyone having to mess around? Better yet, why not just send the board out Pre Flashed? No other technology comes un flashed? Why this?)

Anway, when I try and flash it, it gets about 1/4 of the way through flashing with the green bar and just stops. Nothing doing. No motion. Zilch.
The Disc Eject button flashes green green amber amber - does this mean something? I'm betting it does but who knows What it means?

I tried flashing it the first time with the front banks set to
1 on
2 on
3 off
4 off
5 off

and it did this. I went to go get a coke and came back to find the cat had knocked the power cable of the wall. Needless to say it won't boot on those banks.

So I tried
1 off
2 off
3 off
4 off
5 off instead
and got back to the FlashBios screen and tried again.
Same thing. Gets 1/4 of the way through and just sits there.

It's still sitting there now, 2 hours after I started it?

What's going wrong and what do I do to fix it??

the reason the chip doesnt come pre flashed or the bios is available inthe downloads section is because it is based on copyrighted ms code and therefore illlegal.
if it to much work to go though irc and ftp try the xbins auto tool, found in my sig.

any way i would try disconecting the switch and try flashing that way, also double check soldier points 13 and 14

Thank you much Matt. That explains the hoops you have to jump through to get this stuff.

Ok, so I'm thinking the same as you. Looks like it's writing to Bank 1 then completely failing on bank 2 (hence it stopping 1/4 of the way through) - I'll check out the soldering. Means taking this thing apart again, but oh well.

Quick question. Since banks 1-4 didn't flash correctly and won't boot, does that mean that are now useless? Or is there a way to get back in there and reflash them (assuming I can get banks 5-8 to take it)?

Soldering is fine, leave it alone. Boot to your backup bios (hold power and eject) and then select your 1mb bank - same one you originally used in your 1st post. Make sure the file you are flashing is exactly 1024kb (1Mb) If it's not, you need to download it again and unrar the file. Just to be sure it's not a corrupt file.

Tried that Rookio

Aaaaaaand exactly the same thing happens.

The file is exactly 1meg - 1048576 bytes.

When it starts flashing it says "Found Flash - : Xecuter 3 (2048k) (01 ad)

Does that mean anything??

Here's something else. Intermittently when it boots up to the back up BIOS (3.0.1) sometimes it tells me that it thinks the flash is non writeable, and other times it doesn't??

Sometimes it says
Flash Type : manf = 0x08, dev =

and other times it says
Flash Type : Read Only?? manf = 0x09, dev = 0x00

it doesn't seem to be consistent. At this point I'm starting to think this is a dodgy chip.

Edit; - now it starts up and says read only almost all the time. Joy.
*sigh*

ARRRRGGGGGGGHGHHHGGGHHGHGH!!HH!HH!!!??!??!???!?!??!!HHHH!

Ok.
So, here's the problem.
YOU CANNOT FLASH YOUR XBOX VIA HTTP AND USE A .BIN LOCATED ON A NETWORK DRIVE!

Copied the .bin to my local system, tried that, and bam, it works.
Alright then! Education and learning in action.

Thanks much to Rookio and Matt for attempting to help out there. How do I "increase your rep"?

Well, that may or may not be true. Turns out not only was the soldering suspect on one of the pins, but also the switch wires were being earthed by the chassis shell where it went under the joypad inputs. Once I put some tape on them it now boots every time.

Man what a joy this modding is..

Cool, Modding is often a learning experience for most people. And that's always a good thing!
