My friends box has an x3 with the CP. A few months ago he turned it on and felt a static discharge at the power switch. The box will boot to the MS dash but will not boot to any x3 bacnk or the backup bios. It was recommended that I try to hot swap and reflash the dead chip. So, we ordered a new x3. Installed it and everything works fine so it confirms the chip was the only original problem. Now, the only problem I have is that I cannot get the dead chip to flash after swapping. I have tried the following with no success.
Boot to 3.03 on bank 5-8 and tried network flash. I get 'Unkown Flash' error.
I flashed 3294 v16+ to the new x3 bank 1-4 and tried using x3 config live to flash the dead chip. When I do that I get the error, 'diasble write protect and try again'. I have tried every possible way to disable write protect and it does not change anything. I tried with the CP switch connected and not connected. With the CP disconnected I tried flashing using both settings on the chip's protection switch.
One thing I noticed is that after I sawp the chip the x3 logo turns red. Is this normal when swapping? All led's on the chip itself are normal.
Is the original x3 damaged beyond repair? What else can I try before telling my friend to fork over $60 for a new chip?
