Hi guys

Well I currently have 2 2.6ce chips that both seem to be knackered. One was working fine, and I hotswapped my first duff one to reflash but this didnt work for some reason. I have done this before so knew I was doing it correctly. Anyhow, for a strange reason this has also taken out the working chip i had.

I've just purchased a programmer to try and flash them both this way. Now after following the guides on here and other places the first thing I notice is that I dont have 2 red lights, i have one green and one red, also noticed a flshing blue led on the programmer aswell. The main problem I have of course is that XBM2.0 and 2.3 will not recognise either of the chips. I've tried this on 3 seperate machines now (2 with XP and 1 with win2000) and I get the same error everytime. I've checked the port settings on each machine and ensured that this corresponds with the settings within XBM but it just wont pick up the chips. All the switch banks are correct on the chip, and the light comes on etc etc.

One thing I keep asking myself is does it need to be grounded in anyway, like when the chip is in the box and D0 etc, is this what the extra wires are for that come with the programmer?

If anyone has any ideas I would appreicate it. I can grab screenshots etc once i get home this evening.

TIA

ok in a nutshell
I have the new style programmer(no batteries,usb powered)

now you need to have a printer cable or attach it to the port itself and the usb port to make this one work.

YOU ALSO NEED THE SWITCH attached that came with the chip, until you turn the chip on, flash protect off, and have the programmer attached you will not see it recognize in x2bm

period

thanks for replies and the link.

@smokingmods

Yep tried all this, i attached the programmer direct to the printer port so I get the lights on the programmer, and have attached the switch to the chip and tried every possible combination of switchs on/off but unfortunately to no avail.

I guess the chips are both retired, and I need to buy more new ones : (

try the programmer on a different computer. I have heard that some computers just won't work with the programmer. Or change the settings for your printer port.
