Problems with flashing the bios (better explanation)

1st thing - hope you all have a great 4th of July! 2nd - I could really use some help.

My son wanted a Mod chip so we got the bundle. I installed X3 Chip (Solder less), the related X3 Control Panel, and the XLCD screen.

I also soldered the three leads to the correct HD, LAN, and DO spots on the back of the motherboard. We have an Xbox version 1.0. and I was able to flash the legal bios (because I didn’t know any better). After that all we were getting was the flash bios screen.
Then I read the posts in the forum (great source of information) and learned I needed to get a hacked bios. Then it would allow us to get to the settings screen so that we could enable the XLCD and better utilize the X3 chip.

I used the xbin tool and downloaded what I thought was the correct hacked bios (X3_3294). During the flashing – all looked well and then it halted. There was error message (erase failed) and it hung.

We eventully had to shut it down. Now it won’t let us into the flash screen anymore. After a quick tap on the power button the display goes red, blue and the eject button blinks red and green. No video or audio and the X3 logo on the front of the pannel remains blue

I'm guesing that since it encountered an error in the flash process we corrupted the bios.

I didn't install the switch pannel because we have the pannel with the protect button and individual banks on it.

How can I reflash if I can't get to the blue flash screen? My kids are going to "kill me" if I don't get it working again. The good thing - the xbox games still work.

I've checked the pins on the connections - don't know what else to do.

Any help would be apreaciated.

Thanks,

Joe

Try booting into the backup BIOS by pressing the power and cd eject together. Reflach from there. Keep in mind that there are 2 different NIOS updates. One for XBOX 1.6 and above and one for lXBOX 1.5 and below. Be sure your using the correct one for you version box.

Yes, he meant reflash :D

Remove the external switch for now. Boot to the backup BIOS and flash you selected BIOS.

Hopefully Xbox should switch off. Try switching it on again without the switch connected.

You can try this as many times as you like since the backup BIOS is read-only (at the moment!).

Why I can not boot with the Backup Bios even if I press the power and eject buttons simultaniously and setting the banks1234 or bank5789. I see the X led purple but I see nothing in the screen. Have I miss something?

Because in your entire post, you failed to mention you have a 1.6b.

If banks 5678 aren't booting, you'll need to either hotswap it with another X3 WITH 3.0.3 on it, or flash with the correct BIOS using another Xbox (pre 1.6b).

So I can't reflash the backup BIOS? I tried reflashing it using X3 config live but it just hung there until I cancelled the operation. My backup is useless to me because my 1.6 won't load FlashBIOS3.03. I try but it just defaults to the primary bank.

Also, what's the purpose in flashing both 1MB banks with the same BIOS... isn't that redundant?

I didn't say you cannot reflash it.

Also, the backup BIOS has 3.0.1 on it by default so you definitely don't have a 1.6 - you have a 1.6b.

What happens when you try to flash the backup BIOS? Are you selecting the file from the HDD or from disk (which is pretty pointless)?

It sounds more like you don't know how to use your chip - read the tutorials and n00b guides. You really need to before progressing.

Finally, of course it's a waste to flash both banks with the same BIOS - who suggested to do this anyway?

I have the same problem (amongst other problems!)

Hello guys/girls.

I am also stupid and have flashed my bios incorrectly!

I have a V1.6b xbox with an X3 chip and flashbios3.0.3 and a 120gig seagate HDD

all of which aren't much good to me at the moment all due to my own inability to double check that my switches were set up correctly.

To cut a painfully long story short, I flashed my xbox with the x3 3294 bios but set the switches to off, on, off, off, off instead of the correct on, on, off, off, off. The xbox loads fine and the xecuter rox my box logo comes up, then it loads to the bois menu screen as normal.

However, my xbox will not load any of the iso's I have made for the evox dash or any of the auto installers I have made. I have made about 7 DVD copies of these just to make sure it wasn't a bad burn or anything.

So I assume my xbox isn't reading my iso's because I stuffed up the flashing of my bios.

To fix this do I just need to hold down the eject and power buttons and flashbios 3.0.3 will load up from my backup bios?

Also do I need the switches set up in any particular way in order for the backup version to load or should I just keep them set to off, on, off, off, off and then change them to the correct setup for flashing (on, on, off, off, off) when I am ready to reflash my bios?

Anyone's help would be much appreciated.

Cheers,

Scott

When you say BIOS menu screen, do you mean X3 Config Live? If so, then you cannot boot from DVD on this screen. Select the option reboot to dashboard or just disable automatic booting to config live for now (you can boot to config live at any time later by holding the white button).
