Problems with MS28 VCC mod

Im looking for some opinions/options on my MS28. My friends tried to do the VCC method on the MS28 but were unsucessful at using the Sam Read command. After they were unable to get the stock firmware from the drive we decided to call that method quits and get the VIA chipset PCI card and try that method. We got the card installed, but still cant get the firmware off the drive. When we called it quits on the VCC mod, we put the system back the way it was... but when we tried to boot the system, it would give an ERROR64. When the drive was disconnected it would boot to the dash fine. Now we have been trying to pull the firmware off the drive through the PCI card. We have tried all the methods we could find in order to pull the firmware off... bad flash recovery, 10 second method, ...everything we were able to find but we still werent able to pull it off. What i am wondering is if there is any suggestions to get the firmware off the drive, other than that I am trying to figure out how to get this console working again. Is there any option of replacing the drive? Please any info will be Greatly appreciated! Thanks so much!

what SATA port are you using on the VIA card try the most rear one (nearest the front of the case) also update the drivers for it.

yea tried both ports on the card but most recently we have been using that port towards the front of the case.

Any suggestions? We really just want to get the old firmware off now so we can buy a new drive. Is that 100% necessary, is there any way to replace the drive without the old firmware??

You have to solder the resistor back where you removed it, or bridge the two solder pads together, or connect them with a short wire. The two pads (the blue and red points for the VCC method) have to be connected for the drive to function again. Get the drive working "normal" again before trying to flash it.

We already bridged the two points with solder and when we boot with the drive connected we get either E64 or E65. We checked our work with a magnifying glass and a multimeter to make sure no other leads were bridged but the drive still isnt working.
