I've finally got my computer recognizing the programmer, but now I am getting the error 0x0900 (flash protect enabled) when I have it disabled on the switch. Is the switch broken?

Thanks in advance.

Make sure you have the cable from the chip to the switch connected properly. If needed, use something small and blunt to push the connector in fully.

I tried turned my LPT to EPP, didn't help and I'm unclear as to what your first suggestion was. Could you explain a bit more?

And yes, the cables are correctly plugged in to both the switch and the chip. I'm thinking I may just have to buy another chip .

Well, it booted to FlashBIOS once, I put in a cd-rw with the bios on it but it froze after it said the cd name. I couldn't do anything, so I was forced to unplug the power cable. From then on it fragged, so I assumed the bios had simply been deleted or something.

In which case, the very worst you should get from bank 2 is a blank screen. If it's FRAGging on both banks then either the install is bad or the chip has failed.

Hi ochenta if its not booting on both banks as martinc says it could be a bad install and the cd/dvd disk bios update will not work.

i have similar problems myself (on a 2.6ce that was given to me) i have read up loads on the net and the only other thing i can suggest is look in your control panel / device manager and then go to ports, check the printer port properties and in port settings make sure "use any interrupt assigned to the port" is ticked and enable legacy plug and play detection is ticked also.

have you used the programer before with success? and what bios were you trying to flash to what bank?

can you tell us what version flash and what version xbox you have (ie:- version 3.03 flash with a 1.6b xbox) as you may have used the wrong flash.

if everything else fails the only other options you have is to either do a hot swap ,boot xbox with a different mod chip or maybe a soft mod (check first if the soft mod method will work) then swap the working chip for yours that wont boot and reflash.

worst case its buy another chip(its not the end of the world,it may be for the chip but not for your xbox m8)
ps does your xbox boot ok with the chip disabled to the msdash....baz

not sure if this will help but.....

I flash my chips from my laptop. If I try and flash the chip using internal battery power, even though the laptop is 100% battery life, I get a similar error!
If I try again with AC power adaptor connected all works well!

I do have a new IBM laptop so not sure why it does it!
