Programmer Troubles

Hello all. I just received the X2 Programmer and I'm trying to fix my modchip that was hit with a bad flash, and I have the programmer enabled, and all the corresponding LEDs are lit up, but X2BM and XIA are not detecting the modchip on any of the 3 LPT ports. Anybody have any idea what might be causing the trouble? Should I try using a LPT Cable to hook into the port instead of plugging it in directly?

Yup, I have the external switch turned on just like the instructions say. Flash protection is disabled, Modchip is on, and it is set on Bank 1. Is there anything in the Device Manager that I need to change on the LPT port?

By the way, the error message I get for all 3 LPT ports in X2BM is 0xFFFF, I have used every possible combination of switches on my external switch, and I've even played with my BIOS settings to check for the LPT port, no combination is working.

Another quick update, now on Port 378, depending on which X2 chip I select Pro or Lite, I get either address return retrieved 0x1010 or 0x2B22, Does anybody know what these error codes mean so I can diagnose my problem a little quicker?

What tutorial are you using? I'm trying to use a programmer as well and the tutorial I found on the home page seems to be very outdated and doesn't mention anything about plugging in the bios chip, but I'm having the exact same problem.

I take it back, I'm not having the exact same problem, my error code is 0x7676. There's a solid red and a solid green LED and then a tiny little blue one just below that flashes, any idea what that means?

how long is the cable your using to connect the chip?
i orig had trouble flashing my 2.2pro ages ago with the computer not finding the chip because the cable was too long so i mad a new cable that was about 2-3inches long which solved my problem

I'm plugging the bugger directly in to the LPT port. Dunno if that's the problem or not. Seems like it's able to see the chip ok, the error message changes when I select between X2 Pro and X2 Lite, but neither one recognizes it. I finally found a decent tutorial, but it relies heavily on pics to demonstrate. The pics have all been replaced with some bizzare looking graphic, so I can't read it, but I'm wondering of maybe it has something to do with the LPT port's settings? Can anyone verify some good settings for the programmer to operate on?

I have read every single thread I can find, and there is no good database of what these error codes mean, but from what I can gather, the 0x2B22 means that flash protection is on. The Programmer is plugged directly into LPT, the external switch has flash protection off, so I don't understand that. Again, I have tried every conceivable combination of printer port settings, modchip settings, program settings, and absolutely nothing has worked... I did order another modchip, so I will attempt a hotswap flash in a few days, but other than that, my only other guess is that somehow the chip got a bad flash that locked it into being protected from being flashed, even when I switch it to the OFF position.
