PSP Emulation

Alright,

after reading up some information [and hearing it from others] the PSP [Japanese] can run Homebrew/Emulation. So my next goal was to pick up a Japanese PSP. Surely enough, I was browsing eBay yesterday, and found a Japanese PSP for sale straight from Japan. it was $210 with $45 shipping. Comes with the normal stuff, headphones, and a Duo Memory Stick upgrade [Forgot the size]. Now, with that thing on it's way [and not having any UMD Games for it ready yet] I wanted to get ahead of the game and find a GBC or NES Emulator as sq377 mentioned in the PSP Hacking thread made by halomaster [Sonic]. Searched, searched, searched, and all I found was people talking about how it's possible to run Homebrew/Emulators on it.....but nothing on how to get the Apps. Can anyone hook me up with a locaton? Really looking forward to getting my PSP, and putting Emulators/Homebrew Apps on it more.

Thanks in advance,
Sam

So if I were to get say...a GBC emulator, I can get a normal GB/GBC rom and put it in my PSP and the Emu will run it? All I have to do it send the stuff and it will show up in the PSP?

Well yeah to be more specific the auction I eBayed it from actually did state it was "PSP Hardware: PSP-1000"......

.....That would mean 1.0 right?

And yeah, I just stated that it was a Jap PSP because I heard I was more apt to run into a 1.0 PSP thats sold from Japan.

I'm not sure what PSP-1000 means, if I were you I would double check with the seller to make sure he hasn't upgraded it because that would suck.

No PSP-1000 is just the Jap package. PSP-1001 is the US package that has nothing to do with the bios version. If you don't ask you might get a Jap with 1.5 or 1.51

Well if it is infact a 1.5....isn't it possible to simply downgrade it? And would it put the functionality of my PSP at risk?

Ah, if only we could downgrade. We can't do that yet. Sorry

Ok, my next question. How exactly would you go about upgrading it. This guy is running a store and has sold tons of PSP's, yes my PSP's condition was infact "Used" but with such a large inventory of PSP's, I figured it would be safe to assume that he would'nt take the time to go and Upgrade the BIOS to each and everyone of his PSP's. But again, that's just an assumption. Is upgrading as simple as putting in a UMD and it automatically upgrading or going inside of the PSP's Software or Hardware?

Anyone....?
I was just wondering if putting in a game would even automatically update the PSP. Or is the procedure different? I need to know!

no its not as simple as that sony will release games later on that will require you to upgrade for the game to run.

To upgrade you either download a PBP off the net or you go to Network Update.
Later most Japanese games will have built-in updates.

Alright, and last, just so I don't shoot myself in the head when my PSP does get here...When I turn on the PSP, I know it goes to the menu [I've played around on one before] and through that menu somewhere I can check what BIOS it has, right? Can I check the version of the PSP BIOS in the Main Menu?

Well, I received a Japanese game from eBay just last week (Space Invaders Pocket) and once the UMD was in the drive, a weird option came up on the browser screen. Some "PSP Update version 1.50" icon appeared under the normal "UMD icon"... when I tried selecting that, it told me "The same version of the system software is already installed. There is no need to update". SO I dunno if this answers your question kimosabe, but I thought I would share this info with the rest of you guys. :D
